A haven of greenery in Monument, The Folly Bar is a botanically-themed restaurant and bar from restaurateurs Drake and Morgan. Modern European dishes partner exciting cocktails at this quirky setting, characterised by giant Norwegian spruce trees.

A kaleidoscopic menu at The Folly Bar ranges from British classic cottage pie, reworked with pancetta and swede mash, to prawn lollipops and katsu fries. Succulent steaks can be upgraded to surf ‘n’ turf with a half Scottish lobster, while a breakfast and brunch menu offers a variety of options from around the world alongside innovative cocktail recipes, like a breakfast martini.

Tree trunks run the length of the basement and up into the main bar at The Folly Bar in London, accompanying plant-pot lampshades and a beehive-inspired bar. Drinks range from hearty ales to fairytale-inspired cocktails, while the ‘potting shed’ deli offers delights from Borough market.

The Folly Bar is just a minute’s walk from Monument Station, and runs frequent cocktail and flambé classes.

I booked for Sunday Brunch and was very disappointed as the web-site looked very nice. The bar is large and nicely decorated with special touches like hot water bottles in case of a draft. The food was basic and quite cold by the time it reached us.

However, the service was dreadful. We had to ask to be served and then when the dishes came we then had to ask for cutlery and napkins ( not once but for both courses). The waitress also looked puzzled when we asked if we could have knives and forks as if it was a strange request. Given this I refused to pay the already included 12.5% service charge. This was also an ordeal as they had to find the Manager to deduct the s/c from the bill.

I booked a table over 2 months ago and when we arrived we were placed at the bar. The waiter had the cheek to say 'best table in the house' however it is very impersonal and the chef said it is for the overflow. We certainly weren't overflow as I booked a long time ago. It was a bad start to our evening. The waitress kindly moved us to a proper table and the rest of the evening was good. Just a shame it started off on the wrong foot.

I went to The Folly with my boyfriend and another couple. The service was great, the menu was varied and we had a really great evening.

Considering the venue is not a club, and that most people are there for dinnning, and obviously to chat over dinning, why is the music the level of a club? I felt like I was shouting at my friend all night long. Other then that a very good venue.
