A refurbished country-style pub, The Dukes Head serves a menu of modern British and Mediterranean food. Inside, roaring log fires, cowhide rugs and distressed-wood panels on the walls make it a warm, cosy retreat in the small village of Crawley Down.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Dukes Head menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Dukes Head bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

Close to East Grinstead, The Dukes Head in West Sussex is an 8-minute drive from Gatwick Airport & a 10-minute drive from Three Bridges Rail Station.

We have eaten at this restaurant before but it's the first time we have had Sunday lunch. We were rather disappointed with the standard of the roast dinners and I wished that I had opted for one of the regular main courses . Service was very slow but very friendly.

    Overall the experience was mixed.
    The starters were really good
On the main courses it was a bit different:

The steak was cooked properly, but the fish main was over cooked and a little dry. It was partially becasue it may have been waiting under a hot lamp for a few minutes.
The cheese board was pleanty with with only a few choices of Cheddar, or other UK comon cheeses

The staff were frendly and responsive, and the evening was a busy one.

These issues may not be present on a less busy evening.

I usually love this place, however upon arrival the staff were gathered around the bar having a meeting and no one greater us, it was only when a bar staff memeber came out of a door and saw us that anyone took any notice of us. shared started was great but the roast we had were really not great, beef was completely over cooked so dry and chewing and the lamb was the same, I would understand more if it was later in the day and the meet had been sat "resting" all day but this was at 12pm so would expect the meet to be pink and juicy. Disappointing as previous experiences have been great.

Excellent meal everyone satisfied with service as well.
As with many popular restaurants the only downside is the general noise from all the dinners. making conversation a little trying.
    Still a good evening.

Excellent food and service. Starter drinks arrived quickly. Menu has a sensible number of dishes (both starter and mains). Food cooked well and tasted great. The restaurant was fully booked, hence reserving a table is essential. Quite noisy but that is obviously due to being very busy. Cost was medium high (starter drink+starter+main+wine) around £42 per head.

Dinning at the Dukes Head was very pleasant, the staff were very welcoming, food was excellent, although the sword fish meal was a bit on the small size, we weren't rushed, in all a very pleasant evening.
