Wrapped in Celtic mythology, The Dragonfly near Newport occupies supposedly enchanted, but undoubtedly beautiful, land. It boasts traditional British pub cuisine by the homely hearth-fire, or in the pretty beer garden which faces the peaceful Tredegar House Country Park.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Dragonfly menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Dragonfly ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Though outside the city in the rustic countryside, The Dragonfly is only an 11-minute drive from Newport (South Wales) Train Station.

Very good service. GFVegetarian so,though limited choice, chef accommodating as much as he could given his menu limitations. Had risotto..lovely.

Booked a table for two easily with their web booking system that works well. Excellent venue with nice rustic ambiance and a good menu. Food was good, served quickly and with a smile.

It was so easy to book a table online whilst on the move and meet our friends there. We had a lovely corner seat by the fire and were not pressured to order straightaway or to rush in anyway. Prices were reasonable and the food promptly served by a pleasant, friendly member of staff. We had the beef as by 1345hrs all the lamb had gone but it was nice and tender and served with roasites, greens, etc. I had chocolate brownie for desert. It was a bit dry at one end but nice for most of it.
I'd have no problem dining there again.

Food is only average in view of cost of it. You could visit a cheaper pub chain and get a meal of the same quality. Not enough veg provided with pie or gravey boat provided and burger looked a little lost on plate - imagine a burger in a bun, a pot with a few chips in it and a very tiny pot of dip on a very large white plate.
