Good food excellent service
07 June 2017
With its roots as an enchanting 17th-century farm cottage near Bristol, the pastoral oaken furnishings and dedication to traditional British pub food in The Ashton remain. Encircled by the stunning countryside, but still close to the city, the food can be enjoyed from by the log-fire or the peaceful beer garden.

Good food excellent service

Unfortunately not good review from me. First prebooked but seems our table was given to someone else. Then after ordering drinks waited bout 20 mins or more, took another waiter to ask if we had ordered then said he would go see where they were. Then waiter took our order for food which I ordered chicken, leek pie. Unfortunately I was given steak and ale pie which another gentleman ordered. So sent that back and had to wait for my proper meal to be recooked, by which time my husband had finished his meal. The manager did come and apologise and took price of meal of the bill, but spoilt our nite out as a couple to dine together. Think maybe they need to review there staff levels or how they do there service, the staff were lovely and friendly. But unfortunately it's not some where I feel I would like to go bk to which is a shame as it local to where I live and beautiful pub.

Excellent food, service slow but it was a sunny day and there was a football match on too. Under those circumstances they could do with more staff for the lunchtime rush. Waiters friendly.

The overall experience wasn't that great. The first excuse came as we arrived, sorry we've no tables left in the restaurant, are you okay with the bar. Then the issues with the selection, they waited until we ordered, to us they'd run out the pork belly because "it was a sunny day". So my wife ordered the linguine ( a safe enough choice), one hour into our meal we're told sorry the linguine is off also. So third attempt; Duck, when the dishes arrived, my pre-made burger had chilled down to just warm, the fries were Luke warm. The duck was okay, but it came with a stale potato waffle (I kid you not), and a rather stale one at that, covered in semi warm cabbage and a chunk of pineapple- weird and not nice. On the plus side the decor and ambience is good. All in all 4 out of 10, could do better. My advice if visiting, pick mid week (preferably not when it's sunny, as this affects menu availability), and if it seems busy leave before your troubles start. We witnessed many others complaining too whilst we were there. It's a shame as it's our local, and we so much want it to do well and succeed!

The pub area is very inviting and comfortable for pre-drinks although it can get a bit noisy when there a lot of people in the bar! The restaurant is welcoming and the waiters/waitress very friendly and helpful. We loved the camembert starter and the crispy duck salad was superb with a delicious sauce and the winter vegetable tart was delicious although it did need some potatoes/chips with it.The service is a little slow but not a problem if you are not in a hurry!

WE RETURNED TO THE ASHTON FOR A FAMILY CELEBRATION AFTER DINING THERE LAST WEEK AND HAVING A GREAT TIME. THIS TIME THE EXPERIENCE WAS NOT SO GOOD. UPON BEING SEATED THE FIRST THING WE WERE TOLD WAS THE ITEMS THAT WERE OFF THE MENU, TOO NUMEROUS TO MENTION IN THIS FEEDBACK. WE ALL ENDED UP WITH SECOND OR THIRD CHOICES. THE FOOD THAT CAME WAS WELL PREPARED AND WE ENJOYED IT, BUT WHEN WE TAKE OUT ELDERLY FAMILY MEMBERS WHO REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO A ROAST BEEF MEAL ON A SUNDAY WE HAVE TO RELAY THIS IN OUR FEEDBACK THIS TIME.
