Food is always good here, and nice atmosphere in restaurant. It needs better lighting outside on the path through to the main road however.

Paying tribute to the vintage British pub, The Dormouse in York serves traditional pub food in what was once a Victorian hospital. The grand hearth displays the classic brickwork, while the rustic ivy-covered walls and a charming orchard are attractive views from the al fresco beer garden.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Dormouse menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Dormouse ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Dormouse is only a 6-minute drive from York Train Station.

I visit The Dormouse twice a year with friends. We enjoy the large menu including my gluten free menu. Not so good this recent visit as there was no separate gluten free menu. However staff were very good giving me choices The

The location is only 10 minutes from home and is always clean and comfortable. The staff are always helpfully and the length of time from ordering is always good and we are not waiting to long.

Excellent roast Sunday lunch in a very nice family atmosphere restaurant. Very attentive waiter. One negative, we all felt we were rushed through the meal. Restaurant was busy but we were out within 80 minutes so it wasn't a leisurely lunch. Would prefer no piped music anywhere. It is played in the garden and the restaurant.

Thoroughly enjoyed both evenings dining here, with the choice of menu being varied enough to suit all of us. The Ham Hock was especially tasty and tender and the accompaniments just right, the same goes for the sea bass. Appreciated the choice of a small dessert and coffee. All appetites satisfied.

Lovely Restaurant. Food was well presented and good choice. Good value for money. Nice atmosphere. Staff very pleasant and courteous.

Love the open fires and the cosy lighting, quiet atmosphere with pleasant decor and staff. Reasonable menu, though the 'eton tidy' (dessert) was disappointing. There were strawberries and blackberries (?) mentioned, and they really were needed to offset the fatty blandness of it. There was only a suggestion of purée in it. Pretty expensive, too.
