Paying tribute to the vintage British pub, The Dormouse in York serves traditional pub food in what was once a Victorian hospital. The grand hearth displays the classic brickwork, while the rustic ivy-covered walls and a charming orchard are attractive views from the al fresco beer garden.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Dormouse menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Dormouse ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Dormouse is only a 6-minute drive from York Train Station.

Everything was going well until lunch arrived and the Yorkshires were black! Cauliflower cheese arrived 10 minutes into eating and therefore we were disappointed. When you spend £146 you would expect better.

Your place is very comfortable and pleasing to be in. We booked for 12pm when it was quiet.
However the food was cold but it tasted good
The service was ok to begin with but we had to wait a very long time for our order to be taken for dessert together with a second bottle of wine.
All together we were there for three hours with two small children who fortunately behaved well
This is not a complaint as we enjoyed the visit but it appeared that more staff were needed when your restaurant was full.

We will book again and hope it improves.

Great food with lots of choice except for veggie option. Plenty of room between tables especially as I have a mobility problem. Not enough staff up front. Two waiters were run off their feet as the restaurant was busy. Service was extremely slow as it was also last time we visited.
Love the mini pudding option with the coffee as we wouldn't have normally had a pud.

I visit The Dormouse twice a year with friends. We enjoy the large menu including my gluten free menu. Not so good this recent visit as there was no separate gluten free menu. However staff were very good giving me choices The

Food is always good here, and nice atmosphere in restaurant. It needs better lighting outside on the path through to the main road however.
