Found just down the road from Old Spitalfields Market, The Culpeper boasts one of East London’s best roof terraces, and what Jay Rayner describes as ‘a chef who knows what he’s doing.’ Using ingredients from its own rooftop garden, the food is fresh and simple, but full of flavour.

Favourites on The Culpeper Pub menu include smoked duck breast with crispy duck heart, green beans & walnut salad, grilled pork chop with red peppers, fennel, new potatoes & aioli, or beer-battered cod, with chips, crushed peas & tartare sauce. Lighter bar snacks at The Culpeper range from deep-fried black pudding balls with red eye mayonnaise, to fiery Padron peppers. Desserts include lemon posset with millionaire’s shortbread, and chocolate chip cookies with panna cotta & chocolate sauce.

The Culpeper Kitchen offers a more formal approach than the pub downstairs, and is becoming famous for its sharing mains, which include 35-day aged 1kg prime rib with Pomme Anna chips, and braised monkfish. Using local produce, The Culpeper Kitchen keeps it seasonal, with a menu that changes weekly. Wash everything down with a great selection of natural wines.

Close to Brick Lane and Petticoat Lane Market, The Culpeper pub is a 3-minute walk from Aldgate East Tube Station.

Relaxed atmosphere. Staff effective. Veggie meals small. Sunday roast beef limited choice and expensive. Wine list limited and lacking imagination. Good venue. We had 6 around the table and we're all able to talk without shouting above the music. Good afternoon. We will all go back both as a group and as couples.

Fun to have a drink in the pub before -very lively. Restaurant attractive and quieter. Food excellent and moderately priced for a London restaurant. Lovely friendly service. We will be back.
