As shown by the charming black and white timber design and the cosy log-fire, The Crown – Colchester is a distinctive 17th-century Tudor building. The hearty British pub cuisine can be enjoyed from the al fresco beer garden which looks on to the pretty countryside and is near to the distinctive Ardleigh Resevoir.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Crown menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Crown ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Crown is just 11 minutes’ drive from Colchester Train Station.

Came to the crown early December was so good we came back yesterday
The food took an age to come had to ask twice the starter when it came had been kept warm and was dried up compared to last time as ordered the same
Desert was ordered at the bar and again after about 20 mins we had to ask where it was the custard that came with the Cromwell and been standing and was a very small amount considering how generous the crumble was the cheese and biscuits were very good
We meat again in June and we thought we would give you one more try please don't let us down

Great food. Friendly staff. Fab environment however service was incredibly slow impacting on my mother's frustration (diabetic) and the overall evening as she and my father both ended up grumpy as out 7.30 meal booking resulted in a meal nearer 9.

We have been going to the Crown for the last 25 years over that time the service has been up and down (depending on the manager I suppose) But I have got to say the service was extremely good, Waitress was on the ball although we were in a corner she didnt forget us. The food was good and wholesome The sharing platter was an unusual mix But very nice and the fish and chips were very good so overall the Crown is a good choice for a friendly environment.

8 of us attended the crown at 3pm Christmas Day. Lovely staff and even lovelier food. Couldn't fault it. Will definitely have Christmas dinner there next year. Well done

The service,the food was amazing.
I have never been out for Christmas dinner on the actual day but now I have I don't want to ever cook a Christmas lunch ever again and will be dinning out every Christmas lunch in the future.

There were three dishes off the menu which luckily neither myself nor my friend wanted. Main courses were ok. Service was appalling as they had a table of thirty in as well as lots of other tables and only one person serving drinks behind the bar. We waited 45 minutes for desert which was terrible! Also waited half hour for a sparkling water! The waitresses all looked miserable and seemed to avoid the customers preferring to wipe tables rather than ask if you need a thing else.

I haven't been to the Ardleigh Crown for 2 years due to poor service.
I can only say that it has gone from bad to worse.I had early doubts when I noticed a young couple had given up waiting for their desert.
We were shown to our table on time.
We then noticed a family had been waiting for their main meal even though the others had eaten there's. We waited over 20 minutes for 2 glasses of wine.
By then we had decided to go.
I won't be recommending this place to anyone.
