Housed in a building dating back to 1776, The Cowper Arms is a restored country pub & restaurant serving a seasonal menu of unfussy British food. With a large beer garden for al fresco dining outside, and wooden ceiling beams, rustic furniture & fireplaces inside, this pub is a cosy place to enjoy a hearty homemade meal.

Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Cowper Arms menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.

A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Cowper Arms cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.

The Cowper Arms in Letty Green is a 7-minute drive from Hertford North Rail Station.

Pleasant meal, well cooked. My rump of lamb tasty. The service was friendly. One grumble - I was given wine in a glass which was less than clean but a new glass was provided on request and an apology given.

We've visited this pub many times, this time it was a Christmas booking for 7 people and we had to pre-book our food, slightly inconvenient but its becoming more common especially at busy times at lots of venues. Our party ordered from both the Christmas Menu and the Main Menu, Some mixed feedback on the Christmas Menu... ie vegetables not very nice to no complaints and all the meat dishes were good. Main Menu- Starters and mains all very good. Sweets- mainly good however the biscuits served with the cheeseboard were awful on both menu's. Beers and wines were very good. Service from the staff on a very busy night was very good. And no complaints about the bill at the end. Will definitely be going back.

It was warm and comfortable with a friendly, lively atmosphere.

Lovely cozy, buzzy atmosphere, very helpful waitresses as the number of our table changed and so we needed to move to a bigger one. We all chose from the festive menu however this may have been a mistake - the turkey was hard and dry, as though it had been sliced the day before and warmed up in the microwave! Overall the food was a big disappointment but the servi e and atmosphere perfect.

We dine at the Cowper arms quite a lot it's usually very good however this time 2 of the 4meals were poor quality we told the waitress and were offered 2 free drinks would have rather had edible food. The restaurant war busy so maybe that was the reason but it's not an excuse

Three from 4 enjoyed the meal but one had both the black puddinh that has no black pudding taste with a poached egg and then another poached egg came wi tht e fish cakesfosh - she may have missed this on the menu. She was also sitting in a very dark corner ofr the table. The spicey chicken had a great flacour but was rather tough. We have eaten with you before and had a better experience. Ambience good.
