Housed in a building dating back to 1776, The Cowper Arms is a restored country pub & restaurant serving a seasonal menu of unfussy British food. With a large beer garden for al fresco dining outside, and wooden ceiling beams, rustic furniture & fireplaces inside, this pub is a cosy place to enjoy a hearty homemade meal.
Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Cowper Arms menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.
A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Cowper Arms cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.
The Cowper Arms in Letty Green is a 7-minute drive from Hertford North Rail Station.

We dine at the Cowper arms quite a lot it's usually very good however this time 2 of the 4meals were poor quality we told the waitress and were offered 2 free drinks would have rather had edible food. The restaurant war busy so maybe that was the reason but it's not an excuse

Three from 4 enjoyed the meal but one had both the black puddinh that has no black pudding taste with a poached egg and then another poached egg came wi tht e fish cakesfosh - she may have missed this on the menu. She was also sitting in a very dark corner ofr the table. The spicey chicken had a great flacour but was rather tough. We have eaten with you before and had a better experience. Ambience good.

The food was very good, but too much chorizo with certain meals. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance, but for tables near the garden door there is a bit of a problem with people coming in and out, especially children, who sometimes see it as a bit of a game, and parents dont seem bothered by the people trying to have a meal. If there are only two of us, we try not to be by the doors leading into the garden when they are open.

Would be nice to be advised that your booked table is ready rather than keep asking the staff "is it ready yet"?
