One of Exeter’s longest-standing and most renowned restaurants, The Conservatory building dates back to 1600, and boasts an original, restored Tudor panel wall in the dining room. The menu fuses using classic English cuisine with an innovative Mediterranean influence, resulting in imaginative, modern European fare.

Seared scallops with blood orange and bok choi and Cornish crab arancini with apple salsa exemplify the restaurant’s quirky take on favourite dishes. Hearty dishes such as braised blade of beef with swede and smoked cheddar gratin are just as popular.

Iced peanut butter parfait with dark chocolate ganache and banana curd is a must-try dessert on The Conservatory menu. Early bird and express lunch menus are readily available, alongside a substantial wine list. Award-winning, local organic ales can also be sipped alongside the food.

True to its name, The Conservatory in Exeter boasts light and airy surroundings, creating a bright, relaxed setting. With Exeter Cathedral on its doorstep, The Conservatory is found just a 6-minute walk away from Exeter Train Station.

This was to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary. We have been to The Conservatory before and like it very much. We both chose duck whcih was excellent, but we did ask and pay for extra vegetables as no greens were included, only root crops. My wife usually has the hake, but enjoyed the duck this time.

We had a really good evening at The Conservatory. Ambience was vibrant, service was great and the food was was all really tasty. We had duck with a rhubarb sauce for main, the duck was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic, the rhubarb complemented it perfectly. Served with a lovely selection of roasted veg. Desserts were both great, but I think my husbands custard tart with poached rhubarb pipped my cheesecake and blueberry sauce. That is purely personal taste, as they were both delicious

The Conservatory has become my favorite restaurant in Exeter. The space is magical, with the Tudor and Jacobean wall decorations gently reminding us of the past and of the human impulse toward decoration. The food is carefully sourced and draws on the agricultural riches of Devon; the meat is particularly good. The waitresses are efficient but not impersonal, their faces and smiles distinct. They seem to care that we enjoy the meal and the evening. We had the hake in a broth of peas and peashoots, red mustard, and asparagus. A perfect dish on a hot night. We sat under the shades of cloth in the conservatory and it felt as if we were in a pretty garden. The wine list is interesting and reasonable. It's a joy having such a fine restaurant a five minute walk from my house.

The Conservatory is an amazing, independent restaurant in the centre of Exeter. The outside is unassuming, but don't be hesitant: once you are led up the stairs then you are in a light, airy, space with remnants of a preserved Tudor wall on display. It is a nice intimate venue. The waiting staff are extremely polite and helpful and give great service. If you order before 6:45pm then you get two courses for £17.95 (starter and dessert) which are well worth the money. The portions are extremely decent and the food is absolutely delicious - I don't think I've eaten anywhere nicer in Exeter. Both times I have visited every person in my party has enjoyed all their food throroughly. I do not hesitate to recommend The Conservatory to everyone as a special night out without breaking the bank!

Just love this restaurant and the fact that it is a independent rather than all the chains taking over. Friendly service , comfortable and not stuffy atmosphere and above all just really good non pretentious food. The salted caramel ganache finished my week off and I've been dreaming of it !! ??
