We had a good lunch, good service shame the fire wasn't alight due to problems with the fan which has been going on for years.

With its fantastic location in the country, but close to St Albans, The Colney Fox boasts a unique ivy-enclosed appearance, while offering traditional British pub cuisine. Formerly a popular hotel, The Colney Fox still has a comfortable Innkeeper’s Lodge, as well as a cosy hearth-fire and a pretty beer garden.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Colney Fox menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Colney Fox ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Colney Fox in London Colney is merely 10 minutes’ drive from St Albans.

Nice meal, sad that there was no caramelised red onion chutney for the pizza ( presumably bought in- however not difficult to make and they had red onions) there were a couple of other items not available, not good for early Saturday evening dining. also it would be nice to have an individual small dessert with the coffee, which was what both myself and my friend believed we had orders, rather than a small portion. Her bake well was twice the size of the tiny piece of apple pie.

A bit of a disappointment really. When we arrived our table wasn't ready as the previous diners were still lingering although they weren't actually eating anything, we were then shown to another table which was in the entrance to another part of the bar. This became a problem as each time someone went past with the sprung floor I felt as though I was on a trampoline, and diners and staff were passing very frequently. When it came to ordering drinks they couldn't find one particular wine on the menu and when they eventually got round to taking our food order they had run out of the lamb. In fairness the waiter offered us a discount on our food but as I wasn't actually paying I don't know if this happened. When the food arrived it was tasty but we felt the portions were on the small size. When it came to clearing our table a waiter started and then went off to do something else before finishing leaving us with a half cleared table to talk over and trying to get someone's attention to pay the bill was an Olympic event!!!
