Sunday roast was incredible. Really cosy feel to the place, great for a cold rainy day, decorated really nicely with board games available to play. I couldn't fault the service - very friendly staff. Booking was easy. Overall a great lunch!

Blending famed British pub tradition with quirky vintage style touches, The Clifton in Bristol offers a great variety of food and drink. International dishes and beers sit alongside favourites from the UK, there are classic board games to play, as well as live music nights.

Gourmet British pub recipes take pride of place on the Clifton menu, and are joined by additions from around the globe. Light bites range from handmade Scotch eggs with HP sauce, through to sides like truffle mac 'n' cheese bites. There are generously filled sandwiches like the fish finger bap, as well as fully-stacked burgers. Pub favourites like pork, leek and Welsh rarebit sausages with mash are a popular choice, while on Sundays there are excellent roasts.

Desserts at The Clifton Bristol include the irresistible salted caramel profiteroles, and lemon and wild blueberry ricotta cheesecake. To drink, there are pale ales and stouts, world lagers, and rotating cask ales on tap, as well as fine wines and spirits.

With a welcoming ambience all through the week, The Clifton is a great example of a versatile British pub. Clifton Down Rail Station is just a 5-minute drive away.

    What a disappointment!
Good reviews made me book for an evening meal with our daughters, boyfriends and friends.
    The starters were fine.
The wait for mains was interminable. So much so that we were proactively offered free drinks.
One of the mains was seafood linguine. 3 people ordered. We were told only 2 portions left. When they turned up one of the portions was normal size the other extremely small. Obviously only really enough for one large portion. Other people who ordered same meals had different things on the plate. One potatoes completely missing another missing pesto.
Ordered sweets. Again a ridiculously long wait. How hard is it to pull together 5 sweets?
The sweets arrived. Promised sticky toffee with vanilla ice cream. Turned up with chocolate ice cream which one of the people sharing the desert doesn't like. Told waiter who said I don't know what to do about that!
Brownies should be with hazelnut ice cream. Again turned up with chocolate. No explanation or apology just left on the table. 2 people had lemon tart. I don't know what had gone wrong with that but it was inedible. So much so that the people who ordered both spit their first mouthful into a tissue! It smelled odd too.
Yes I got free drinks and didn't pay for puddings but it didn't make up for the fact that the meal was a disaster. Not least because we booked early to leave early to travel the 2.5 hours drive home. We ate at 7 and we're just about done by 930. What an awful and pretty expensive experience!
