Good food. Attentive service in restaurant. Poor acoustics and very noisy, hard to carry on a conversation, but we were enjoying the food. Then it all went wrong.

Coffee was barely flavoured water. On complaining, bar staff (to our amazement) tasted it! And said it was ok, that it was what they always served! Even so, it was eventually replaced by coffee that tasted of coffee. So they had almost recovered the situation. Until what came next.

Then the bill was brought, including a £13.50 item that we didn't recognise. Asked what it was, and without looking at it, the waitress immediately said it was her mistake. We got the clear impression she knew already it was there and she knew it should not be there. She immediately brought an amended bill without it.

We paid after deducting the "voluntary" service charge of 12.5%.

The customer service manager had evidently been told something was wrong and chased us onto the street as we left. We told him what had gone wrong and there was an apology, but frankly it was too late by then. A special occasion was spoiled.

    We shall not return.

Overall, absolutely terrible service on New Year's Eve and couldn't see/hear the advertised live entertainment.

We paid £125 per person for the NYE event, which was advertised as including live entertainment. When we arrived, we were seated in a dark corner of a secondary dining room rather than the main room. The live band looked pretty decent but this was useless as we couldn't see or hear it in the second room; the whole room was completely soulless.

The service was also terrible from start to finish, I think they just did not have enough waiting or kitchen staff to cope with the evening. We arrived at 9 and our order wasn't taken until at least 9.30. Half an hour later, no sight of the canapés that could have easily been brought out at any time and no wine despite us asking 2 or 3 times. Finally the canapés arrived but still no wine. Another long wait until the starters, wine finally arrives after we chase again. However the chap serving the wine then leaves before pouring it to attend to another table... Finally we get the wine after having already tucked into the starters. The naan bread that was meant to be part of the soup starter is then brought as we are finishing the soup. Another long wait, the main course arrives but they haven't brought the "middle course" appetizer, which we point out and so they take the main course back. Total comedy by this point. Waiters on the whole seemed inattentive and didn't notice when plates needed to be cleared or else were too busy to do it.

Food was ok but not of the high quality you would expect and that we have had before at this venue. The halibut main course was completely overcooked to the point it had the texture of cotton wool and was actually hard to chew/swallow.

One positive, the wine we ordered was not as expected and the sommelier let us get a different bottle at no charge.

Overall we felt let down by poor service and the lack of entertainment for a night we paid a lot of money for.

my first visit and the food was excellent, really very good. The restaurant was busy hence why we could only get an early 6pm reservation. I liked the 'library' interior and the service was good although a little difficult to attract attention on a couple of occasions.
