Boasting vintage styling of oak beams and stone, The China House in Plymouth offers traditional British pub cuisine in a spacious and open environment. From the cosy log-fire inside, or the al fresco beer garden outside, fantastic views over the Sutton Harbour Marina can be enjoyed.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The China House menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The China House ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The China House is just a 20-minute walk, or a 4-minute drive, from central Plymouth.

Extremely please with dining experience at the China House, which is what I have come to expect from Vintage Inns. Good choice on menu, quality, presentation and service very good.

Great dining experience and food as lovely as always. We took our family there who were visiting us on holiday and they thought it was a great location.

Varied menu choices but not many that we liked. There is a set menu too. Food we had was delicious though. (Hunters chicken plus roast chicken).A bit pricey for portion size. Only had bottled fizzy drinks due to pumps not working. The dessert menu is very good which also includes a sharing platter. The trifle was amazing! It's a lovely place to go in the summer due to location as beside the water with decking.

Friendly, efficient service. The food was nice - the higher end of reasonably priced. Good location and lots of cosy nooks and corners inside.

The venue and waiting staff are good. It would have been nice to have the expired candle replaced and lit- no evidence of live candles at all in the dining room. The food was not up to usual standard. We chose the Ham Hock with supposed spring onion mash. The hock was just about palatable. The flavour was lost due to undercooking. We requested a sharper knife...The mash was bolstered with peas, no presence of onions. We did inform the waiter of our disappointment who promised to pass on our comments to the chef.

It was very busy when we arrived and it took some time for a member of staff to speak to us and confirm our booking. Once seated it did take a little while before our order and drink was taken. However, once it was the speed of service was fine and the food and wine was very good. On a busy Saturday night this was not unexpected.

Thom was excellent in his customer care skills. We were bit disappointed with the food. It was surprisingly "cool" considering the restaurant was not overly busy. Nothing was lovely and HOT and my wife particularly likes her food hot! we did not like to complain, indeed the onion side was cold, skinny chips cool like had been sat around, but when we had our dessert that was really disappointing. The Eton Mess was not like we had ever had, really bland tasting nothing much but a bit of squirty cream and my wife had no meringue in hers at all. Thom was very helpful but was not his fault.
Would only recommend as the restaurant is lovely to come into and the service we had was good.
