Formerly a charming farmhouse, and still a proud listed building, The Chequers – Stevenage exemplifies classic British pub cuisine in a pretty rural location. A sense of cosiness imbues The Chequers, through its log-fire inside and the lush encirclement of trees around the building and beer garden outside.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Chequers menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies designed by celebrity chef James Martin offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Chequers ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Chequers, in Bragbury End, is only 9 minutes’ drive from Stevenage Train Station.

This Restaurant / Pub is by far our favourite for miles, great food, staff, service and atmosphere, good selection of food to suit all tastes, I've had everything from fish to steak to their traditional cheese and bacon burgers which are the best I've had anywhere.
We dine hear at least once a month and have brought many friends who are now regulars too.
This is how good pub dining should be done.
Try it once and you'll go back again and again.
