Set in the Northop Country Park and housed in a stately former golf clubhouse, The Celtic Arms near Mold serves hearty British favourites. Guests can also dine on the decked patio, whilst children can enjoy the outdoor play area.

The Celtic Arms menu is rich in classic dishes, with toad in the hole, sirloin steak and chicken tikka curry all on offer. Guests can also opt for chicken breast topped with garlic and herb goats cheese on a bed of tomato and basil risotto, or haddock fillet with poached egg and a cheese sauce. Desserts at the Celtic Arms in Northop include toasted hazelnut and honey cheesecake, rhubarb and ginger crumble and warm double chocolate brownie.

Wooden flooring and plush leather seating lend the restaurant a sophisticated feel, accentuated by chandeliers and a wealth of artwork on the walls. The traditional bar serves a wide range of wines and cask ales.

The Celtic Arms in Flintshire is a 10-minute drive from both Shotton and Hawarden train stations.

    Good value , good choice , good service , and well cooked. Will be back. My stars are compared to other gastopubs . Wine dear but food makes up for it when using special offer vouchers.

    The menu has a good selection from traditional British food, steaks, grills, fish and vegetarian. I enjoyed a delicious flavoursome vegetarian risotto, though I would have preferred it a little hotter. The ambience is calm, staff are friendly, polite and professional. I love the solid wood furniture, the table mats and the beautiful glassware. These all help to make it feel classy whilst unpretentious. I also love the different room options, so you don't feel as if it's a huge busy restaurant.

    Not your best day.
    Initial service was fine but then slow/almost non existent. A requested drink failed to appear. Dessert menus came and then nobody inquired what we might want for the best part of 20 minutes.

    My meal (turkey & ham pie) wasn't a tribute to the 'chef'. Undercooked Brussels sprouts (like rocks), chips not much better with no colour to them and barely cooked insides. Microwaved pie had plenty of filling but no real 'wow' you'd expect for the price.

    On this experience, it's not one we'd repeat in a hurry.

    Made to feel very welcome, only down side as a couple out for a meal we were seated next to a loud and very boorish group of 4 regulars who had great difficulty talking rather than shouting at each other
