Inventive British pub food and rustic charm make The Castle on Pentonville Road an Islington favourite. A stunning roof terrace is perfect for al fresco dining or drinks in the sun, while sweeping wooden floors and cosy corners make the relaxed bar just as inviting.

Tempting mains from the Castle menu range from honey roast gammon and hand-cut chips to chilli, chickpea and coriander studded peppers with grilled goat’s cheese. For a hearty lunch, try beetroot, onion and Wensleydale tart, or simply some fortifying hot soup with crusty bread.

Share a piled-up platter with mini burgers, ham and barbecue chicken wings, or tackle The Castle’s chargrilled rib-eye steak. Chocolate brownie with whipped cream and Eton mess number among classic British desserts.

An eclectic wine list and soothing lounge music add to the chilled vibe of The Castle in London. A 3-minute stroll from Angel Tube Station brings you to The Castle Islington.

There are many gastro pubs in Islington and I have to say I usually visit the same one time and time again. However came across The Castle and decided to give it a try. Well I have to say pleasantly surprised. It was Sunday, pretty quiet and we were early for our booking, but made to feel welcome while we browsed the menu and ordered our drinks from the bar. We were seated in a lovely corner near the infamous roof terrace but definitely not venturing up there as just too cold! We were asked if we were ready to order but we just wanted a bit of time so we were left to chat and told just call when we were ready which was good. I ordered the paté starter which I have to say was one of the best I have ever had. A decent portion with plenty of toasted flat bread and and tangy chutney. The only real criticism was the main dishes came out before the starter was finished. Mine was a roast so I felt I had to rush my paté. The roast (A rib of beef) was a decent size and ok...nothing really to write home about. My friend had the fish and chips which he said was pretty good but could have been a few more chips on the plate! A sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was ordered which my friend said was definitely one of the best he had tasted. I wish I had left enough room to order one! All washed down with a fine Chilean Merlot. We definitely will return and sample further from the menu.
