Serene and secluded, The Castle – Castleton delivers traditional British pub cuisine in the beautiful hills of the Peak District. The seasonal food can be enjoyed year-round, through the beer garden, the hearth fire, and thanks to the attached Innkeeper’s Lodge. Local whispers of ghosts also diversify the atmosphere!

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Castle menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Castle ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Castle is merely 5-minutes’ drive from Hope Train Station.

We went for my friend's 81st birthday and it couldn't have been nicer. We all chose a different Sunday dinner and all were very good. Delicious starters, calamari and fondue and mini desserts and coffee for afters. The two girls who served us were brilliant, my friend is living with dementia and a glass was knocked over and broken but this was dealt with in an unabtrusive, discreet way and they even popped a lighted candle in her panna cotta and sang Happy Birthday. Such kindness was very much appreciated. Good food, lovely staff, and a very nice setting, what more could you want.

Used to visit this place over a year ago but it went down hill, food wise. Heard it had a refurb and was under new management so thought we'd give it another try. Sorry, very disappointed.Waited forty minutes for our meal. The restaurant was very noisy, with a great deal of young children fo the first hour or so, couldn't hear your self talk. The food was as before ,not good.Sunday roast was just awful, Turkey was dry, roast potatoes were rubbery and greasy, the one carrot I got was rubbery and floppy, the cabbage was okay I guess, but over all tasteless I afraid. My husband had beef burger and said it was greasy, and could still taste the grease on the way home. Will not be returning. It seems the food has not improved, which is such a shame as the place its self is nice enough, shame about the food.

We've been going to the Castle for many years,it has a lovely feel to it and is located right in the heart of Castleton. It would appear to have changed hands recently and undergone a very pleasant makeover. We have no complaints and will be back over the upcoming festive period. Also recommend the Bulls Head just over the road, both great pubs/hotels with great food and blazing real fires when it's cold.

It's a tired run down looking place which was a bit worrying as was the sight of a jar of Helmans mayonnaise on the neighboring table but all that disappeared when the food arrived. The excellent, professionally served food, the friendly service and the reasonable sized bill means we will go again because there are lots of interesting dishes on their menu we want to try out. Good choice of drinks as well - chose a lovely cider.

The pub was cosy & comfortable. Food was good; we each had olives as starter & fish & chips as main. Drinks were also good; I had lager & my friend had beer. staff were welcoming, friendly, efficient & very attentive.
