Hearty dishes include chicken & leek pie with tarragon mash, beer-battered fish & chips, or deep-fried squid with lime mayo dip. Warm atmosphere and great food

My husband and sons meals were delicious but I am afraid that the special a roasted courgette and feta cheese quiche was overcooked and almost burnt.

I was contacted to say there would be a limited menu due to technical issues in the kitchen but the choice was appalling
I had booked table for a friends birthday and was embarrassed as really only one main meal of chicken curry
    Very disappointed

Stupendous fish and chips - fish was perfectly cooked, chips chunky, crisp and fluffy inside. Our choice was straightforward but there was plenty of choice on the menu. The complimentary prosecco was very welcome! Very nice service.

It was a nice romantic ambience but the food was very slow considering it wasn't that busy but the waitress apologised so we appreciated that. We paid £15 for fish and chips - fish was soggy, mushy and the batter was extremely greesy and the chips were rock hard. My partner could snap his in half with a cracking noise! We left a lot of food on our plates but the waitress didn't ask how our meal was or anything! Honestly, the chips shop for a franction of the price would probably have been better... However, I had the pistachio cake for desert which was delicious. Go there for that if nothing else! My parter had the chocolate brownie Sunday. Pretty poor for £6, just runny whipped cream, couple of small bits of brownie and a couple of Oreos! Now I'm happy to pay a lot for a meal out as long as the quality matches up to the price. Unfortunately, this just wasn't the case. I did think mmm this must be a really good fish and chips for that price but sadly not!

Second visit, both lunch times. Our table was ready on arrival. We had plenty of choices from the Specials Board as well as the lunch menu. Although we did not have starters on this occasion, the main courses we chose were delicious. One choice was the fresh pasta and seafood from the Specials Menu, which was evidently cooked to order and flavoursome. There is a reasonable selection of wines at average prices. Although the Canbury was busy, our service was attentive but not intrusive. Overall we thought it was great value for money and we will return.

We had Sunday lunch with 6 adults and 3 toddlers. There was a good choice of toddler meals. The staff and chef were extremely helpful regarding one of the toddlers who is gluten and dairy intolerant, and suggested a good option for her. We also has two adult fishetarians and another adult allergic to tomato. All three toddlers and all the adults really enjoyed the food. Particular highlights for adults were the burrata and squid starters, and the enormous green olives and hummus. And the pork belly was very popular, likewise the salmon. The highlight for two of the toddlers (who had eaten up all their pasta and sausage dishes AND sampled some adult food) was the ice-cream with brownies. The dairy-free toddler enjoyed a raspberry sorbet. We've eaten here many times and have yet to be disappointed with food or service, and their tolerance of children is exemplary. They were generous with the huge number of paper napkins we went through! They have a great conservatory restaurant which is perfect for families. But people who would sooner avoid all that can eat in comfort in the main bar. The place was packed, booking essential at weekends. Our favourite local venue (but don't tell anyone!)
