Set in Meriden, the village claiming to be the ‘official centre of England’, The Bulls Head – Coventry is a restored 17th-century inn serving uncomplicated pub food. With chunky wooden furniture, leather sofas & fireplaces, it is brimming with cosy country-style charm.

Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Bulls Head menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.

A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Bulls Head - Coventry cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.

We booked for Sunday lunch in late afternoon. Our food was very good. We had to wait as the table was not yet available at the time booked and were seated 30 minutes later. Service between courses was terribly slow so lunch turned into dinner which rather spoilt the experience.

Having dined there several times before, I had the crispy duck salad, which as always was delicious.

Two other people from the party had salads, one the chicken and avocado and the other the spiral carrot. Our fourth member has the butter chicken but it looked very bare on the plate due to the arrangement of the food and was also very dry.

For dessert I had the cookie and ice cream and my friend had the frozen yogurt. We were both very satisfied. Our two other friends both had the crumble but said it was very dry and stodgy and there was not enough custard to moisten it sufficiently.

It was a splendid time. Waitress was pleasant, quietly efficient. Menu had a good selectin, food arrived before I wondered were it was. Everything was tasty. The only slight downside was one of the pieces of lamb rump was full of gristle.

Food was exceptional last night. My wife had the pork belly main meal whilst I had squid Alioli starter and salmon mains. We also had the bite size desert and latte. Everything regarding the food experience was top notch and I sent my compliments to the chef as it was busy restaurant last night.

Staff here are friendly and courteous and always willing to help.

This is one of my favorite places to eat and I would recommend to anyone as I have done many times over the last 10 years.

Our 3rd visit to this restaurant on this occasion some of the food was disappointing. The Steak pie was overbaked and dry, and the accompanying vegetable portion size very small = 2 slivers of carrot and 2 pieces of onion do not amount to a portion of vegetables. The roast chicken was, however, good.

Had a lovely meal at the Bull's Head Meriden yesterday. The food was excellent, as it has been every time we've visited. The staff are friendly and efficient. I have and will continue to recommend the Bull's Head for any one looking for a really good Sunday lunch.
