Took some friends here for dinner - the restaurant was only about half full on a Saturday night so lacking somewhat in atmosphere. The menu seemed to have got a lot more expensive than when we last dined here and we thought the prices were high for an average menu. Whilst we were having a drink in the bar there was a child screaming nearby so loudly that we had to stop talking. We presumed it was someone in the lobby of the hotel. However when we sat down the group with the child plus three others sat down near to us. Throughout our meal two of the children screamed almost non-stop often meaning we had to stop talking until they had paused for breath. As the mother did nothing we eventually complained to the waiter who did go and speak to them but still nothing happened. Eventually we had to take matters into our own hands and one of our guests went and spoke to the woman and asked her to remove her two screaming children from the restaurant which she did. It completely ruined our evening out - the restaurant did give us free puddings as a result which was fair of them considering it was the woman who was at fault. The food was good - our steaks were tender and well cooked but the price was high - £250 for four of us with drinks and that was without paying for the dessert. The restaurant should have a rule that children under a certain age do not eat in the restaurant after 8pm - most hotels have this rule and there was a deserted entertainment suite next door with tables in it to which they could have been moved to avoid upsetting the other diners. Other diners were clearly disturbed. We have children ourselves but would not consider dining with young children after 8pm.

Lovely, relaxed evening. Friendly, professional staff, great food (modern, flavoursome, beautifully cooked) and a good list of affordable wines. We will return!

My husband and I, daughter and grandchildren had lunch with the aim of seeing if the Brasserie would be suitable for a family birthday lunch for 16. We were disappointed. There had been a power cut but even so a restaurant should have done better. Waitress was grumpy, waiter was good, bread great, chips poor, restaurant seemed tired, choc mousse too solid, pasta, fish & beef cheek good, pork OK. Wine was fine. Grandson's tea v good but his frites bowl was just plonked on top of his bread plate. But overall no wow factor. We won't be booking for the family lunch.

Having dined at the Brasserie before but not for some time I came away slightly disappointed with the whole experience and unlikely to return in the near future.
I should have been alerted to potential issues by the ease which I was able to book. There were few diners the whole time we were there, perhaps five or six table so there was little ambience and little vibrancy. We both choose the beef and it was like the curates egg, good in parts. Vegetables, red wine jus, Yorkshire pudding were all excellent, my meat however was chewy rather than tough and a let down on what was otherwise an excellent meal.
Puddings were both very good as were our cappuccinos.

Service was good with the waiting staff attentive without being overwhelming.
