Really enjoyed my salmon main course. Shared a god bottle of wine. Comfortable seating and welcoming atmosphere. Excellent service, very quick despite restaurant being very busy.

Overlooking the Dee Estuary, The Boat House in <Cheshire sits on a beautiful RSPB reserve. Taking particular pride in the fresh fish and shellfish on offer, it also serves a variety of hearty British cuisine.

The menu at The Boat House contains a huge variety of dishes. Delicate starters like goats’ cheese topped red pepper give way to superb fresh seafood, ranging from mussels to grilled Dover sole. Traditional British dishes like toad in the hole are popular choices, as are the hearty Sunday roast and chargill options. There is also a dedicated vegetarian menu section, and a selection of tangy, colourful desserts.

The Boat House Neston also prides itself on its selection of traditional British ales and beers, which are often altered to provide great variety. There is also a fine wine list, and a selection of exciting themed evenings.

With a warm ambience and stunning surrounding scenery, The Boat House in Parkgate is British coastal dining at its best.

On arrival we were not informed of the option choices i.e. soup of the day.
    Nice atmosphere.
Enjoyed the salt & pepper squid.
The portions were more than adequate.

We are regulars at the Boathouse and were really looking forward to seeing the new renovations and having our Easter celebration. However, we were bitterly disappointed. Having asked for a high chair on arrival, it then took 10 mins to find one. We waited over 25 mins for still water for one of our diners, with the waitress apologizing and telling us that both bars were operative! My brother then went to great lengths to ask the waitress about the portion size of the lamb chump, knowing that he was hungry and wanted a good portion. When it arrived, it was on a cube of potato and no veg! We had to order extra veg and chips, which at £16.50, we really thought it might have more than just potato with it. My fiance and I, who come every month, have noticed a marked difference in portion size and lack of sides offered with the mains; they seem to be only available to buy! The butter was hard, understandably it had come out of the fridge, but why isn't it softened? My 11 year old niece had terrible difficulty trying to spread it. And why is it necessary to always refer to us as "Guys"??? We are not American, we are not teenage pals and we are not all male! I really think that for a restaurant with such a usually spotless reputation, you should show more respect than to use a slang term to address us.
We love the Boathouse, but you have really let yourselves down.

The place had reopened on the Easter Bank Holiday after being refurbished. It looked great but they were extremely unorganised. We had to wait over an hour for food. I had to physically chase food, menus and drinks. The manager apologied and knocked a round of drinks off our bill. However it did spoil our visit. They should of reopened on a quieter weekend not Easter.

After going to the Boathouse regularly over the last five years I can honestly say this is the first time we have had to complain. Despite the great efforts of Wayne the general manager the food was what I can only describe as poor quality, poor presentation and for the majority of the main course cold too. The service unfortunately didn't fair too much better with unacceptable waits for drinks and a wait of over 40 minutes from finishing the starter to getting the main ( the poor quality of the food was not really worth the wait !).
Despite Wayne doing all he possibly could by reducing the bill and providing a bottle of wine on the house I could not help but think that the owners have ultimately taken what was one of the best pub food restaurants in the north west and reduced it to nothing better than a motorway cafe !

Delicious food but not enough vegetables with roast just one bowl between three adults. We asked for more which after a wait came. We waited a long time for desserts to then be told that they had run out of kids sticky toffee pudding which was very disappointing for our 7 year old having already had a long wait. As he was choosing another dessert another waitress came over to say they did have sticky toffee pudding after all! All very muddled! The food overall was delicious but the service overall was disappointing and we saw no one but very young waitresses throughout the whole Easter Sunday meal which was a celebration with relatives from abroad visiting. We have been coming to the Boathouse with visitors for many years and always been thoroughly impressed this was not one of those visits unfortunately.

Lovely, bustling atmosphere.. The refurbishment has been tastefully done. Retaining the character of the Boathouse, but now it's more contemporary.
The service was friendly and efficient. Thank you for your hard work on a busy evening.
The menu choices should satisfy all tastes and well presented. It was however noticeable that the portion sizes for dishes that are regular favourites were much smaller, but at a slightly increased cost.
