Boasting a coveted AA Rosette, The Blue Door Bistro at the Montague Hotel boasts an informal bistro-style setting. Yards from The British Museum, sumptuous British cuisine is served in the timeless dining room, featuring vintage artwork depicting London circa 1849, and glamorous mirrored panels.

A simple yet refined selection, The Blue Door menu takes influence from across Europe. Alongside succulent cuts from the grill, moreish main courses include duck cottage pie with fresh vegetables, or artichoke ravioli with pine nut butter. Nostalgic dessert recipes at The Blue Door London include Bea’s rice pudding with salted caramel, or pear & apple crumble.

In warmer climes, decamp to the al fresco hideaway of The Blue Door’s Garden Grill, where a la carte offerings, sizzling barbecue dishes and traditional afternoon teas can be enjoyed overlooking the Bedford Estate. Befitting its luxury 4-star surroundings, The Blue Door’s afternoon tea is an elegant selection of fine teas and towers of fresh scones lathered with jam and clotted cream.

Enveloped by lush greenery, the secluded al fresco patio at The Blue Door Bistro Russell Square is a leafy hideaway in summer. Russell Square Tube Station is 4 minutes’ walk away.

Ambience, service, friendly staff and location (convenience to British Museum) great. Breads good, deserts good, wine excellent but main course - chicken, smoked bacon, tomato, avocado, cheese and beetroot salad - really rather poor. Little or no flavour, on two of the 3 plates there was only a single cubic centimeter of avocado and the chicken was over-cooked and dried up. A shame.

Late lunch before travelling home during dinner time. Had visited British Museum beforehand and researched somewhere to eat nearby. The Blue Door met our requirements well. Both had battered fish and chips and a glass of wine. Service was efficient, charming and attentive. Dining room was full of charm. Price was very reasonable given location and standard of food and service.

Classy without being pretentious; highly professional and motivated staff who allowed their personalities to shine without being 'in your face'. Food was satisfactory but let down by minor but important details (main course was barely warm).

I have really enjoyed my dinner at The Blue Door Bistro. The ambiance was definitely very warm and cosy. I enjoyed the amuses that I got, I was iimpressed with the way I could have my tea with the tea timer and above all: the food was excellent (both the fish and chips and the mille feuille with the chocolate brownie. I know that it is custom in England, but I am not so pleased when I see that a discretionary service charge has been added to the bill. I know that one does not have to pay it, but for some reason I always feel uncomfortable/maybe disappointed when I see that.

Lovely place and excellent food. Especially recommended after paying a visit to the British Museum, this peaceful place is also very welcoming, and the service is excellent. The Guinea fowl is absolutely fantastic. I'd go back for the afternoon tea as it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Lovely ambience, great food and wonderful service. A little on the expensive side but for the experience, actually well worth it.
