With views stretching across the Yorkshire Dales’s affably-scruffy Burn Valley, The Black Swan delivers a host of innovative British classics from a diverse menu. Housed within a 17th-century, cobblestone building, a plethora of guest ales are served from behind the bar, as well as the pub’s hallmark Black Sheep brew.
Locally-sourced black pudding with grilled Yorkshire blue cheese, crispy bacon and red onion marmalade leads the classically British dishes on The Black Swan menu, alongside hearty Sunday roasts. Lambs liver with pan-fried onions sits on a bed of mash and veg, and is drowned in a thick sherry gravy, while the signature ‘Fearby whale’ dish offers a local take on fish and chips.
The charming stone courtyard lends itself to al fresco dining, while inside, a collection of suspended chamber pots sweep across the ceiling. Pillar candles sit on polished oak tables, and a feature stained glass window adds to the pub’s traditional charm.
The Druid’s Temple is just a 6-minute drive from The Black Swan in Ripon, while the breathtaking Jervaulx Abbey is a 12-minute drive away.
