We went for Sunday lunch. We were on the first sitting and were really disappointed with the food the roast potatoes were terrible, rock hard, I had to leave mine. There were hardly any vegetables and the lamb was really fatty. The Yorkshire pudding was good though. It was £16.50, which would have been fine had i enjoyed it, but definitely not worth it. should have complained! I really would not recommend it.

7 of us had a family birthday dinner for my wife. The Sunday lunch was very diappointing - potatoes poorly cooked and everything either cold or clearly cooked a long time previously. This is our second bad experience - the last one a year ago the restaurant apologised and gave us a free meal. This is a great pub and location, shame about the food!!

We had lunch today, 3 April 2013. I have had good meals at The Black Swan in the past, but not today. We waited 50 minutes for our meal, even though the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived and ordered. The food only arrived after I complained. My burger was cold, dry and tasteless and the bun was dry. The chips and the wine were fine though. When we explained that the meal had not been good, no-one came to see us, we were simply presented with the full bill. The waiting staff were pleasant but no sign of management.

Nice atmosphere, good service. Unususal choices on menu. Chicken cesear salad a bit bland.

Having been to The Black Swan a couple of times since its transformation from a (perfectly good and much loved) pub to a restaurant and enjoyed the meals and the experience, I returned there recently with friends to find myself totally disappointed.Instead of the lovely food we had been served with previously, we found ourselves served with pre-prepared, Brake brothers style fare - which is fine, and perfectly okay, but we were charged for something else. Particularly, the cesear salad that was placed in front of me was a pale, unappetising-looking mound of iceberg lettuce, unmixed with anything else, with, of course, the chicken and croutons dumped on top, plus an inordinate quantity of anchovies! The entire dish smelled and tasted fishy. It was quite disgusting, and my appetite rapidly disappeared after managing to eat [$]When the waiter came to clear away our plates and mechanically asked if everything had been okay, he looked positively irritated when I politely told him that I honestly hadn't enjoyed what I had managed to eat of mine and that, perhaps, the balance of flavours involving the anchovies wasn't quite right. The waiter was dismissive and expressed the opinion that next time I should order something else. There, of course, won't be a next time. Visited February 2013

dined on a friday evening. Definitely need to book. Not hurried but allowed to relax and enjoy converstion over a meal. Service was good, again not hurried, just right.Portions are not small! Good variety of reasonably local produce

Whilst this used to be good, it has really gone down hill over the past couple of years. After our first 'poor food' experience we went back a further 2 times to see whether it had just been a blip, but no. All our local friends agree it is not what it used to be. The staff must be used to hearing it by now, they are pretty indifferent about complaints. A real shame.
