Food was excellent, could have done without one of the chefs winking at my wife through out the evening though. Made her feel uncomfortable.

Vintage furniture, crackling log fires and a relaxed, cosy ambience all combine to make The Black Pig Pub & Dining Rooms an essential spot for drinking and dining throughout the day. The beer garden at the back offers a tranquil setting for friends and family to relax with a choice of international drinks from the bar, and inside there are three private dining areas also available for hire.

Gourmet pub fare on the Black Pig Pub menu is made using carefully sourced produce from Kent and Sussex. Classic British flavours include pork rillettes with apple sauce and pickled red onion salad to start, moving on to continental additions like confit duck leg with mash, winter greens, roast garlic and lentil jus. Sunday lunches offer up mouthwatering meats, fresh veg and all the other crowd-pleasing trimmings.

Desserts at The Black Pig Pub & Dining Rooms in Tunbridge Wells are full of colour and bold flavours, and include beetroot, walnut and cox apple crumble with brandy crème Anglaise. The wine list includes English vintages, while the beer menu incorporates a great European selection.

A cosy gastro pub that pairs tradition with inventive gourmet tweaks, The Black Pig Pub & Dining Rooms is only a 2-minute walk from Tunbridge Wells Rail Station.

    Excellent!

The food was delicious, beautifully presented and well thought through (i.e. not standard gastropub fare - more imaginative).
    However, a few cons;
    1. during the main course, a door must have been opened somewhere as there was suddenly a howling draught. We were wondering if it was because the kitchen staff were hot? Either way, not a great way to finish a meal (especially when I'd requested to be seated in a warm part of the restaurant)
    2. our host was friendly, but it's not necessary to ask how the food is during every course - twice, in one course. If diners are looking happy, not pushing their food around or pulling faces, you should assume all is ok. Also, with asking so many times, it felt like we had to keep providing compliments. We were there as paying guests, expecting good food - yes, we were very pleased with the food. But it's a service. You pay for a service, you don't have to compliment the person providing it.
    3. It's also rude to come up to the table and butt in to what is clearly a close conversation. I felt a little as though we were there to provide a little entertainment; the host was over-familiar. Commenting on the time it's taken someone to finish a dish is out of order, even if it was dressed up as humour 'Well sir, it's nice to see that you've obviously enjoyed every bit of your food' and then to continue with that and start telling a story.

To improve the service, I'd suggest paying more attention to the diners, and how they're behaving. If they look happy, in close conversation, there's no need to interrupt. A polite check (once) that everything is ok, and then being seen but not heard, doing wine top-ups etc is the way to go
If however they're calling you over, being raucous or telling jokes and have very open body language then by all means, go over and join in!

I must reiterate - the food was really delicious and would have received a 5.

Food was excellent. The service was terrible, they forgot our order so it took nearly an hour to be served our main course. I had to chase to get drinks, to get dessert and to get the bill.

The staff were very accommodating and helpful and adapted their menu to fulfil our dietary needs.

My family and I ate Sunday lunch here for Mother's Day. I had goats cheese and red onion tart, roast lamb and sticky toffee pudding. The pastry on the tart was under cooked. The roast lamb was one of the worst cuts of lamb I have ever had - very fatty and inedible. I had one small potato cut into three, so not enough there. Vegetables - a stem of broccoli and dry, roasted beetroot. Not great at all. The entire meal took 2.5 hours. Far too long.

The premises were in the heart of Tunbridge Wells and easy to find. The car park was small and as the venue appeared to be well frequented I would suggest patrons arrive early in order to find a parking space. There was a small, well sheltered outside drinking area which formed a delightful sun-trap on the warm and sunny day that we visited. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to dine al-fresco. We arrived on time but were not hassled to take our table until we were ready, which gave us an opportunity to enjoy the outside sunshine.

Inside, the dining room was crowded (but this was Mothering Sunday) and somewhat dark, with a decoration that can best be described as ‘shabby chic’. I would like to have seen much more porcine decoration - particularly of Large Black pigs. A must for every gentleman is the toilets – I haven’t peed in a bucket since I cannot remember when. The room was very noisy which made conversation difficult.
The staff were friendly and attentive at all times.
Overall, the food was very good – tasty and well served.
My starter could have been slightly larger but my companion’s was more than adequate. Both main course meat servings were generous, tender and tasty. Perhaps a couple more roast potatoes would not have been out of place. I did not receive my advertised ‘sweet mint sauce’ to accompany my lamb and my companion did not receive her ‘horseradish cream’ to accompany her beef. These deficiencies were not noticed by either of us until we had almost finished our meals and glanced across to a neighbouring table – these deficiencies did not detract from the taste of the appropriate meats.
The desserts were good and the staff were more than willing to replace the crackers of my cheese board with bread.

Overall this was a four out of five, expensive (but it was a Mothering Sunday special menu) dining experience and I would recommend this establishment to others.

Food was average and not as good as it used to be. Burger was dry and a lot of bread and fish and chips was just odd
