Off the beaten track, The Black Horse Brentwood serves time-honoured favourites and pub classics from a hearty British menu. Framed by a white-picket fence and black and white timber, the dining room is kept warm by a host of open fireplaces, and features studded leather banquettes, chunky oak beams and a pretty courtyard for al fresco dining.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Black Horse menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Black Horse ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Black Horse in Essex is a 7-minute drive away from Weald Country Park, and a 5-minute drive from Brentwood High Street.

Very good food, and good portion size, had a roast sharing platter, only 1 little critic we would of preferred gravy in a jug instead of on the sharing plate, we couldn't spoon it onto our own plates. Great range of desserts, our choices were delicious. Very good service from waiting staff.

A great meal served by Alex. We all had the Beef which was nicely cooked. I had the Frozen Yogurt desert which was a light ending to my meal.

Road tested it for my husbands birthday coming up in November, reasonably satisfied. Enjoyed the atmosphere, the staff were helpful and patient taking the orders. We all enjoyed our food except my grandson who had cod and chips.

We were a party of just 4 and I booked online on book stable. Neither my wife or myself had been before and out friends were from Yorkshire so that hadn't been before either. From the moment we parked the car, in the car park which I will add was nearly full, till the moemnt we paid the bill and left we could not have enjoyed the visit more. The place was welcoming, all the staff that we saw were happy and seemed to enjoy being there which is a great advert in itself. The man who served us was wonderful, and help to make the visit that bit special. The food was wonderful, I had the steak and mushroom pie which came up lovely and hot and well laid out Both my wife and I and our friends said that we would certainly go back. All in all a lovely visit, thank you

Great place, positive atmosphere, good service.

Just be careful of the set menu.....three courses for £20. If you don't have three courses, your bill comes up dearer! We didn't want desert in the end and the bill was over £10 more, so after discussion and enquiry about the bill (as that was not explained to us), we took desert home with us in a doggy bag.

It also gets very busy after 6pm so watch out for no parking spaces.

That all said, I would still recommend and we will go back ??
