Off the beaten track, The Black Horse Brentwood serves time-honoured favourites and pub classics from a hearty British menu. Framed by a white-picket fence and black and white timber, the dining room is kept warm by a host of open fireplaces, and features studded leather banquettes, chunky oak beams and a pretty courtyard for al fresco dining.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Black Horse menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Black Horse ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Black Horse in Pilgrims Hatch is a 7-minute drive away from Weald Country Park, and a 5-minute drive from Brentwood High Street.

Back in February there was a large party of us celebrating a friends 60th birthday the service and food was fantastic
Yesterday Sunday 12th was complete different story.
There were 9 of us plus a baby. We wasn't properly greeted as we arrived or shown to our table....just pointed to the direction of it. I appreciate it was busy but The food was not the usual standard. The waitress service was dreadful we had long waits for everything and she kept bending/pushing between two people to place things on table without saying excuse me.
    So rude.

The food was a very low standard. My steak was very gristly and very hard to chew my guests
Two had Hunters chicken which they found very bland. Two had lamb shanks which were
Very small and low on meat. The only good thing was the coffee. All in all a bad evening.

Not good food or service. Upholstery on chairs stained and dirty. Had to ask twice for water.

My husband had the sirloin steak which was cooked medium, but was tough to cut and tough to chew and said it was the worst piece of steak he has ever eaten. He did mention it to the waitress who was very apologetic and offered us coffee or dessert on the house, which we declined, We also had a £5 reduction on the bill, so no complaints regarding the service. I had a burger in a brioch bun, but the top of the bun was quite hard, I suspect it had been kept warm under a warming plate whilst the steak was being cooked. We will not be visiting this establishment again and unfortunately, it has put us off eating at any Vintage Inn in the future.

Sunday Lunchtime: good food , reasonable portions. average pricing : Welcoming host & service quite good. liked the ambiance & layout of restaurant. When booking asked for a window seat but not available. Like the mini desert option available.

Very good food, value for money and a lovely Christmas ambiance. Staff very friendly and helpful (it was the first day for our waitress and we feel she did an excellent job). Thank you.
