Tasty meal and excellent service.

Nestled in the heart of the idyllic village of Corbridge, The Black Bull is a traditional British pub dating back to 1755. Burst-of-colour flower baskets adorn the pub’s front during summer, and crackling open fires keep things toasty indoors during winter.
Specialising in trusty, home-cooked British recipes, the Vale Royal Abbey menu is made up of time-honoured classics and inventive chef’s specials. The signature beef & ale pie is a creation from much-loved celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, while favourite world flavours include sizzling steak fajitas, or aubergine and roast beetroot curry. Gourmet sandwiches and jacket potatoes are served throughout the day, and guests can round things off with an indulgent crumble, cheesecake or sundae.
The drinks list at the Vale Royal Abbey Arms pub features carefully-chosen beers and international wines, and a lengthy list of soft drinks. Younger diners are not forgotten, with a varied menu for both lunch and dinner, and a mini roast served on Sundays.
An unspoilt setting in rural Northumberland, The Black Bull in Corbridge is a 9-minute walk from Corbridge Train Station.

We've had very good meals at the Black Bull as recently as a few months ago, but the standard seems to have declined since then. For example, the garlic bread was smothered in far too much balsamic vinegar (some might think any is too much), which made it very messy to eat and did nothing to disguise the dried out crust. And the chicken in the curry and Caesar salad looked suspiciously like sliced, packet meat. The staff were efficient and friendly and, as ever, the pub is still one of the nicest old buildings in Northumberland. But something needs tweaking in the kitchen.

As always we were given a very warm welcome and seated straight away. Both our meals were served beautifully and hot. Waitress warm and friendly. I was especially pleased that my father and I had such a nice afternoon together as it was Father's Day and I live a distance away. We resolved to do this more often so many thanks to Black Bull x

We have visited many times in recent years for either lunch or dinner with family members who live locally and also family members from Israel and have always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The menu provides plenty of choice and presentation is attractive. Special favourites are typical English dishes such as Beef and Ale Pie and Sunday Roasts. Desserts are varied and we tend to look for Eton Mess or Sticky Toffee pudding. We love the ambiance and were relieved that recent renovations have not meant obvious alterations. Staff are always helpful but not intrusive and the overall experience is positive. This is certainly our favourite venue for entertaining our visitors. The only problem is that there are very few options for vegetarians or vegans. I understand that this is a typical English Pub but unfortunately there seems to be a growing number of non-meat and non-fish eaters in modern families. We highly recommend a visit to the Black Bull as part of the Northumberland experience!
