Built in the early 1600s, The Bears Head offers quintessentially British fare and old pub favourites from an accomplished and diverse menu. Teeming with ivy, a sprawling flagstone courtyard sits alongside the black and white timber-clad exterior, while inside, chunky wooden furnishing and crackling open fires punctuate the dining area.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Bears Head menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Bears Head ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Bears Head in Sandbach is just a 4-minute drive away from the popular Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve, which boasts a 40-hectare park, lake and woodland.

The food was fine cannot complain ,the staff took a while to deliver what we had ordered but that was because the pub was very busy - you rarely say that these days. We have eaten here before the service was fine and the staff were courteous last night. The one and only issue was that when I booked online I had asked for a good comfortable table as it was for my mothers 70th. The table we had was in a nice quiet position ,but the bench seat wasn't my idea of comfort. However all in all we will be going again and that's the key pointer as to how we feel about The Bears Head. So service given four stars is only because it was busy ...how we were dealt with was fine, and seating

We have been to the pub several times and always enjoyed our visit. Unfortunately last night was disappointing. The vegetarian options were limited as the dish I was hoping to have wasn't available and this wasn't explained to us until we came to order our food so we had the vegetarian burger. Served on a bun with a few sweet potato fries, the burger was over done to a crisp and the fries almost hard. A bit of a side salad would also have been appreciated as the over large plate looked rather Spartan.
We didn't have a pudding. The drinks we had were fine.

Best restaurant features for us (2 people dining at lunch time) were the log fires and the beams which made the dull day outside become warm and cosy inside. Unfortunately two of the dishes were unavailable - the fish dish also risotto. As one dining is vegetarian it cut down the choice as she would have chosen the vegetarian risotto. Having said that she went for the burger and found it tasty and enjoyable.

We have a meal out generally once a week. We like to go locally and the Bears Head is pretty close to us. The building is very old and has had many configurations over time and even since I first visited it several years ago, so I want to like it!
I do like it a lot better since it has been renovated recently. The food is also much better and the service has improved.
On our last visit we were quite early but were seen promptly and the meal and drinks were very good. We will return!

Disappointed with my meal I orders rump steak ( medium -well done ) the steak was so tough I could not cut it with steak knife on complaining I got a n apology and was offered another meal which I accepted . But by the time it arrived my husband had already finished his meal as we were celebrating an anniversary it wasn't a very good experience ( they did take the cost of my meal off the bill but that wasn't the point !!!
