Formerly a watering hole for the workers who built The Grand Union Canal, The Barge showcases a typically British menu loaded with innovative nuances. Log fires and chunky oak furnishing punctuates The Barge dining area, whilst a leafy beer garden caters for al fresco dining.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Barge menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Barge ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Barge in Milton Keynes is a 6-minute drive to the enchanting Willen Lakeside Park, whilst Milton Keynes Central Rail Station is a 9-minute drive away.

We weren't happy with the little table we were sat at which was squashed in a corner. Every time someone at the next table got up II had to get up too so they could get out. Two of us ordered the sharing Sunday roast. Turkey and beef were fine but the lamb was minuscule and so were the vegetables. We pointed this out and the staff were very cooperative and brought more lamb and vegetables. So all in all I give it 5 stars because the food was delicious and the serving staff were lovely. The dessert was great too and I had the best coffee with Tia Maria that I've had anywhere

Booked a table for 5 for 3.00 pm on. Sunday. On arrival given a list of unavailable choices. It is incredible that they were out of all steaks, roast turkey, ham hock, Brie and a few other items. Disgraceful management, our waiter was apologising to every table. A task he did very well. To add to the misery we waited nearly an hour for our main courses. No starters as nothing left that we wanted. An other table walked out.
The beef and roast lamb were meagre portions.... Stretching out what was left.
No sign of any management!. They should be ashamed.
    An expensive disaster

The service was lovely very relaxed atmosphere, the only criticism was the risotto with the seabass, it was really cheesy, the waitress did say that it had a lot of cheese in it but it was actually sickly where it was too much, both me and my friend had the same and had to leave some of the risotto, I really didn't think it needed the cheese it would have been much better without it, otherwise the rest of the meal was lovely.

My wife and I often lunch at The Barge with a friend who lives nearby. We normally enjoy our meals there, especially with the genuine pub ambience, good value food (especially if you use the discount vouchers which we receive via email!) and very friendly staff. Yesterday's experience, though, was very poor. Firstly, three of us, 'oldies' looking forward to some quiet lunch time conversation, were seated in very close proximity to a large party containing some rather excited and vociferous children. We requested a change of table and in fairness the staff arranged this tactfully and efficiently. Then came the wait for the food, particularly the main courses. We were there from 12.15 until 2.30 for two courses, when we did not wish to linger so long over our meals. We mentioned the delay over the main courses to the waitress and she did then return to our table to update us, and to apologise; I gather that there were staffing difficulties on the day.
The food as usual was good when it arrived.
This is my second unfortunate experience at The Barge, admittedly in quite a few visits. Some time ago we were seated in the conservatory next to a bucket placed to catch drips from the roof! On that occasion, too, there was a delay, this time in delivering the bill. Normally I would give The Barge four stars, but yesterday's experience records a lower rating.

Very good food as always but service haphazard as very short staffed and this caused delays. Cheesy mushrooms & Ham hock were delicious.
