Described in The Standard as a ‘very welcome addition to Chester’, the Architect is a classic pub and restaurant overlooking Chester Racecourse. Set within a beautiful extended Georgian manor, the pub is divided between the original Georgian structure and its spacious modern extension.
Dining at the Architect restaurant features a spectrum of options, from the inventive ‘light bite’ option of smoked salmon linguine with chorizo, red pepper and watercress pesto, to the tender beef feather braised in red wine, and a traditional steak and ale suet pudding. Children can choose from a selection of options like the pork and leek sausages and a smoked haddock and salmon fishcake, while the hot waffle dessert with butterscotch sauce and honeycomb ice cream is a temptation for all.
Wines at the Architect in Chester form an eclectic list with detailed descriptions to help guests pick. The Architect’s interior radiates classical character with historic paintings and a wall-to-wall bookcase, while the extension area is an open-plan garden room with a sizeable bar.
The Architect pub and restaurant is just a 10-minute walk from Chester Cathedral, and sits across the road from Chester Racecourse.

Lovely restaurant, ambience and excellent staff.Sadly my colleague's chicken salad contained uncooked chicken. My prawn salad was mainly greenery, with the odd prawn.Been here several times, enjoying the experience, but will now will return for location, not food.

I have eaten here many times and always been more than pleased but last night did not meet their normally high standards. We got our table late and it wasn't cleaned or set before we ordered our meal. One diner made a request to omit a tapenade dressing which the chef did not do although the waitress did deduct this meal from the bill, but we had to remind the staff. The first pot of coffee was sent back as it was tasteless and the colour of tea! The second one was better but not by much. This will not put me off going again but maybe Saturday nights are best avoided as it was very busy and possibly understaffed.
