Very good experience. We asked for an early dinner - pre theater - and they very flexibel adjusted, even opened 15 minutes earlier for us. Food and wine were very good. It's a nice historical place with a tastefull modern interior design and a very friendly team.

Have been coming here for many years but my meal today was awful. The choice on the set menu is reduced to three choices now and because I'm not a fish eater, I had pork chop which was so dry and tough. Served with macaroni cheese (also dry) and broccoli. The waiter tried to help by getting some gravy but the meat was still inedible. Would think twice about going again. Beware the wine charges too! My friend had a 'large' glass of Sauvignon Blanc and it was £11! The waiter tried to say we would pay more than that elsewhere but I very much doubt it! (The full bottle was £21)

The Angel is a very comfortable hotel and restaurant gives good views across square of the old Abbey. Menu is varied. I asked for a main course of one of the starters...Salt beef. I felt that I did not get a double portion except for two poached eggs. However was charged double.

Disappointing - and confusing. Our puddings were very good but otherwise food was cooked without passion and sometimes without even basic skill!

Mains were the real issue: my husband's was 2 star only because the sea bass was cooked OK. It was one small fillet and the the new potatoes were fine the vegetables were hard. There was no clam sauce as on the menu and it was dry and rather dull.

My duckbreast was better but only because the polenta and duck bonbons were excellent. The duck itself was odd - pale and flabby and tastekess. There was some sauce but it wasn't rich enough to rescue it.

Service was fine and our wine good but it was as if several people had put our dinner together. Given this, it was very overpriced and I don't think I could recommend it.
The hotel was comfortable but the eaterie we feel let it down. Breakfast was a bit similar with a pale and tasteless excuse for toast and nothing to make you lick your lips!

Food : 2 x roast beef. Nothing special very bland. 1 x Pork - equally bland. No stuffing, and no apple sauce. So 3 x disappointing main course. 2 of us happy with our puddings, my mother chose a chocolate pud - disgustingly rich, could only eat a few spoonfuls
Drinks : 3 x white wine spritzers with soda. Perfect
    Service : Very good
Location : Perfect having been to the D-Day Celebrations

Haven't been to you before. Bought my 88 year old mother, and a friend who was visiting who she has known for 60 years. I really thought I was pushing the boat out coming to you and that it would be special. Overall we were disappointed with the food. But the biggest disappointment was

Ambience : I like T-Rex, but do you seriously believe that T-Rex is appropriate restaurant music for Sunday Lunch in your hotel?

I politely asked a young lady to turn it down. She seemed rather surprised and a little reluctant, but kindly did so.

But we were still subjected to nah nah nah na na na nahhhh, nah nah nah na na na nahhhh - making it impossible to hold a conversation

When I asked another young lady to change the music to something more suitable, I was told that wouldn't be possible. Really !

So I didn't have good value, because we didn't have a good time

    Don't expect me back.

Staff greeting was great. Nice bar seating area. However food not great, there were 6 of us of which 2 had the pork and found it very difficult cut let alone chew ! It was very very tough. 3 of us had steak 2 rump which were quite nice and 1 sirloin which for £26 was also tough and not worth that kind of money.

Overall we were very disappointed as we were all expecting something much better.

We did not complain on the night as we are not that way inclined and didnt want to cause any bad feelings but I thought I'd express our thoughts on here.

Ambience & service very good. Cream tea awful. Scone not fresh - hard & burnt. Afternoon tea - homemade?? Did not want to complain & ruin a special occasion. (Party of five)
