Within the spectacular Grade II-listed The Palace Hotel, Tempus Restaurant serves a dynamic European selection. A local landmark, the hotel boasts a 217-foot clock tower, and the lavish bar showcases Manchester’s largest martini menu.

A seasonal selection of dishes on the Tempus menu showcases rich flavours, using sublime produce sourced from in and around Manchester. As well as soothing ‘home comfort’ options and daily vegetarian specials, tempting a la carte dishes include chargrilled poussin with paella, or sustainable fish pie with roast mussels and granary bread.

For the finale, Tempus Restaurant showcases an inventive selection of desserts, ranging from white chocolate and brioche pudding to a spiced plum clafoutis. Guests can be doubly indulgent with a signature house cocktail from the lively bar.

Plush cocooned seating is offset by glazed Aztec-style tiling at the luxurious Tempus Manchester. Oxford Road Rail Station is just 2 minutes’ walk away.

Booked pre theatre meal package for myself & daughter. Choices for this deal limited to certain menu items. Both starters were very good but my main (burger) was tasteless and basic - had better fast food ones. Daughter's was better (big chunk of bacon loin)and tasty. Ordered a coffee which came stone cold - apology was given and fresh was brought but shocked when got bill that cup of coffee was [$]!!

We dined at 6.30 prior to a show (at 8.30). The hotel was packed with Christmas revellers yet the restaurant remained well serviced and separate from the bustle.Had 'a selection of breads and oils' whilst we waited - turned out to be 4 slices of a cold supermarket bloomer, with a few mixed salad leaves - again, supermarket selection. Home made, warm rolls would have turned this into an excellent choice - the oils were fab!Main course and dessert were tremendous - more than made up for it. Pre-theatre special - two courses for [$] - excellent value.

We booked Tempus for a pre-theatre dinner, before going to the Palace Theatre. Having read a poor review previously, I was a little nervous, and made a point of letting staff know that we were going to the theatre for the 7.30 show (we arrived at 5.30pm). I need not have worried as the service was excellent. I had expected a particular "pre-theatre" menu having seen pre-theatre dinners at a fixed price advertised. In fact, the deal is that you get a discount off 2 or 3 courses if eating in the pre-theatre time slot (5 - 7pm), which equates to the advertised fixed price if you go for the lower of two price bands for the main course. Starters and deserts are all the same price. A nice touch was that the bread that arrived before our food was a good foccacia served with a few marinated olives, butter and tapanade. After this, my very fussy 16 year old had an excellent homemade tomato soup instead of a main course, while I had shoulder of lamb and my friend had the chef's special that day (pork with a mustard sauce). Two of us couldn't resist the trio of chocolate (icecream, white chocolate cake and chocolate and nut praline in a dark chocolate cup), whilst one went for the eton mess, which was tasty but a bit light on the meringue. We had a bottle of the house red with our meal, which was very drinkable and served at the right temperature and two of us had coffee afterwards. Despite my concerns after looking at a previous review, we were all done by 6.45pm, and had time for a quick glass of wine before the show!

We booked the table prior to theatre visit. Table booked for 17:30 and Main course did not arrive until 19:00 when we really should have been leaving. Food arrived cold - not sure if this was the usual standard for this restaurant, but they were expecting a large party although this should not have impacted on our experience !
