Taku means the home of hospitality. This meaning is completely relevant in the Asian restaurant Taku in the Excelsior Hotel in Köln.

Here you can experience palate teasers from the kitchen's different Far East cookery and high end culture. Head chef Nicolas Auersperg cooks his dishes with authenticity and creativity and takes his ideas from purist Japanese, hearty Chinese or well rounded Thai and Vietnamese cuisine.

The Taku offers two solutions for business people: the Office-Box in two sizes, that you can either collect yourself, or have it brought to your work desk, or the weekly changing business lunch which can be eaten in the restaurant itself.

For a stay full of enjoyment, the modest service team welcomes guests in the timeless elegance of the Taku on the cathedral square. Here you can indulge in speciality dishes taken from fine Asian cuisine, served with an appropriate sake, or a wine to accompany the meal.

We enjoyed very much the eating experience at Taku. We found the menu slightly limited but it compensates in terms of quality. The staff was great. Our only regret was the long wait between the various plates. The (delicious) amuse bouche offerings could not fill the protracted intervals. The duck plate was the one that we thought could do with some serious improvement.

A fine combination of Asian and European flavors, paired wonderfully to a single winery. This was, indeed, a special occasion; which was, however, also why I cannot rate the restaurant on "per norm" basis. What was served was of the most delicate - and the amuse-gueule off the menu were excellent. The service was of the best, very knowledgeable on technique, history and/or preparation of the dishes, as well as absolutely forthcoming - we were immediately provided with a second serving of bread and butter after aspirating the first round (it was good!), and were offered a second plate of after-dinner pralines (which were exquisite!) seconds after we were done with the first. We kindly refused the second praline set - it seemed too much like the proverbial Python mint... Standing out, as regards the food, we particularly found the Iberico pork with quail egg and the kroepek with shrimp and mayonnaise, served as hors d'oeuvres, fantastic. As was the Tonka bean cornel with berries served as "in-between" dessert.

If in town, certainly worth making a reservation...
