I went to Sunborn Yacht Hotel for Afternoon Tea as I was treating my best friend to celebrate her 30th birthday with our partners.

The venue was beautiful (as expected) and the greeting staff greeted us with warm welcomes. During our afternoon tea there was loud banging from the floor above us in which our waiter apologized and explained that there was a dance class occuring at the same time. He went upstairs to ask them to move the class to a more discreet area. Although the loud noise did temporarily ruin the ambiance and made it slightly less premium it didn't ruin our experience entirely.

Myself and the rest of the guests opted for the "Afternoon Tea Under the Sea" rather than the traditional option. The scones were amazing, and the sweet treats were okay but the bread on the sandwiches were stale which left us to assume that the food was not fresh.

In addition we were given only one portion of clotted cream to share, this had quickly been devoured and we had requested for more, in which we had to wait so long that we had to remind our waiter of this request and when it did finally come, it was actually whipped cream!

When we were seated the waiter mentioned that if we needed anything additionally in terms of scones, sweets or sandwiches then all we had to do was ask. But when my partner asked on a second occasion if we could have additional sandwiches (bear in mind the first occasion was for myself and his sharing tower and the second would have been for the birthday girl and her partner) the waiter had explained to us that the chef had said if we were to have anymore he will charge us extra.

This made us feel cheap and had we known this, we would have attempted to share out our additional sandwiches to not only myself and my partner but to my friend as well. This did not make sense to me since they directly placed the plate onto our sharing tower so we did not think it wrong to ask for my friend. I was embarrassed which ruined the experience.

I was very excited about going here for afternoon tea. The pictures showed such beautiful little sea themed cakes in such a beautiful location however I won't be going back.
We arrived early and were seated. We upgraded to the more expensive tea for a better selection. The cake stand came out with 4 tiny finger sandwiches each, 2 scones each,2 brownies, 2 canollis, 2 tiny white chocolate macaroons each and some strawberries. I was gutted because it was nothing like the photos. Completely false advertisement. We are it anyway and it was nice but before paying I asked why the photos were different and I was told "oh didn't management let you know, the delivery didn't come this morning so our chef just put some other stuff together". I was stunned. They were charging me £35 each for a few strawberries and anything that could be found in the kitchen because the delivery didn't come. I made a complaint because this had ruined our experience and to top it off people just arriving were receiving an array of different cakes (still not the same as the pictures) but they had a vast selection of different cupcakes which we were told arrived after us but still aren't the right ones. I was offered 10% discount which amounted to just over £6. I was still extremely unhappy with this and asked to speak to a manager. The manager was in a meeting but thankfully offered the tea free of charge. Although we ended up not having to pay for a terrible experience it doesn't discount how disappointed we both were to have travelled all the way into London for an afternoon tea book months in advance. The venue is nice but we opted for coffee instead of tea as well and it's that awful Lavazza stuff so all in all. Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't go again.

The hotel is magnificent, the staircase and chandeliers give a warm and plush feel to the reception area. The restaurant looks out over a super view downstream of all the major London landmarks. The tea was very good. Sandwiches plentiful. The scones were very good and the little cakes delicious.

Really poor experience in booking and communicating with venue as this was a special treat booked for my parents. Venue were unhelpful and even suggested to cancel booking as they could not take payment from me. Very disappointed.
