A rustic riverside restaurant in a leafy London suburb, Stein’s Kingston offers a traditional Bavarian dining experience. A chalet-style open-fronted restaurant leads out onto the expansive terrace, set directly next to the river.
Crafting the rich natural flavours associated with German cooking, the Stein’s menu spans from wholesome brunch and light snacks to hearty main courses. Alongside trusty homemade sausages with sauerkraut and fluffy mashed potato, enjoy succulent Viennese-style chicken, or warming veal goulash with bread dumplings and crisp salad.
An amply-stocked bar at Stein’s in Kingston offers a plethora of imported beers, fresh juices, international wines and rich coffees. For something sweet, tempting puddings and cakes are served with an exciting Bavarian twist.
Evoking an outdoorsy vibe, the cosy cabin-style dining room at Stein’s restaurant is filled with communal wooden benches, enamel lampshades and a gallery of vintage photographs. Kingston Rail Station is a 12-minute walk away.

Very pleasant restaurant, which justified all the previous good reviews. Overall, the original atmosphere of the Bavarian restaurant with staff in the original German-Bavarian costumes, very pleasant and hospitable. Food delicious, served in a standard plentiful portions at moderate prices. As for the seating could be a little more space between tables. On the one hand, this closeness tables just brings guests in a good company, while the other side can someone get in the way?!? Thank you for a tasty lunch and pleasant afternoon. Tonci

Good and friendly service, meals are slightly overpriced, traditional south german food on the menu. Nice decorations and beautiful beer garden. Quality of meat could be better.

I had first experienced the Stein's menu at Winter Wonderland back in 2013 and was sufficiently impressed with the theme and food to want to go again. Unfortunately it appears that Stein's had not made enough money at that event to warrant a second appearance the next year, which did prove a disappointment.
Nevertheless, upon searching Trip Advisor for a suitable restaurant in the Kingston Upon Thames Area, I found Stein's once again, and had to book a table, with a view to trying one of their dinner plate sized schnitzels.
Upon arriving I was pleased to see the theme had not changed from my initial experience. However, we had some difficulty entering the restaurant with our child's buggy, given the steps. There was not really enough space for our buggy in the restaurant, but a high chair was provided and we were happy with the size of our table. We were not offered a menu for sometime, given our waiter had just started his shift and was still organising himself. Nevertheless, we were suitably pleased with the selection of fruit juices and requested a sharing platter for two, which comprised of a mountain of mash with sauerkraut and a selection of sausages, with two large hams.
The food was fine, but we could not eat much of it, given we had already had a large lunch in Woking. We left with the remains in a doggy bag and my partner had some more the next day. I felt that the meal was a little too high in salt content for my liking, but only ordered that against the shnitzel in the first place because I wasn't as hungry as I had hoped to be by that evening!
We will go again, I'm sure. If only to try their schnitzel again.

A great German restaurant that manages to be authentic and good fun at the same time.
The selection is food is very good and actually quite reasonably priced. We particularly enjoyed the sharer dishes which were very good quality. As Weissbier fans, we were both happy to see a good choice of beer on tap!
The service is also very friendly and helpful, and the location by the river is very good.

Wonderful food and generous portions. We had the wild boar goulash and the schnitzel, washed down with some draft beer - all excellent. Cute decor and love atmosphere.

We received a warm and friendly welcome. Service was excellent. There were eight of us (two children) and we all enjoyed our beautifully cooked tasty food. The men enjoyed their beers. The atmosphere was really comfortable and fun. The river views added to a brilliant experience and we are already planning our next family visit. Thank you Stein's.
