A funky blend of casual cafe and modern restaurant, Spoon in Edinburgh Old Town draws diners in with its inventive menu of Scottish and European recipes, freshly made cakes, and simple style.
Wholesome, healthy recipes feature throughout the Spoon menu, with plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free options. Regional flavours are showcased in dishes like Scottish asparagus with lemon and chilli mash and romesco sauce, and there are fresh seafood options such as chargrilled herring fillet with fennel, watercress and lemon. Exotic tastes from overseas can be found in dishes like the saag aloo with coriander and lime yoghurt, while the sides range from patatas bravas to a selection of Scottish cheeses.
There are a great selection of freshly made cakes to enjoy throughout the day at Spoon Edinburgh, while the concise wine list includes bottles from the old and new worlds. Brunch is also a popular option here, with crowd pleasing choices ranging from rolls with sausage, egg and black pudding, through to toasted waffles with bacon, blueberries and maple syrup.
Moments from the Festival Theatre Edinburgh, Spoon offers pre-theatre menus, while Edinburgh Waverley Rail Station is only 10 minutes' walk away.

We were looking for somewhere close to the Festival Theatre for a pre-theatre supper and a friend recommended Spoon. We were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the environment was delightfully bohemian and the food delicious. We very much appreciated the vegetarian options, and my Cabernet Sauvignon was superb. We will be coming back soon for lunch. Thankyou.

I like this place. Lots of light and room and we were left alone to enjoy our chat and food. My dish - a sweet potato gratin- was truly excellent.

We had the two antipasto sharing platters which were both lovely & plenty to feed the three of us. Service was great. Only negative was it was quite noisy, just with peoples voices so it was difficult to hear each other. Not sure what they could do about that-more soft furnishings maybe to absorb it? Otherwise was fab, love all the quirky mismatched furniture & crockery too.

Food was tasty, well cooked and arrived promptly which allowed us to go on to the theatre in plenty of time, and they coped well with last minute addition of a baby, who they provided a seat for and offered to assist us in any way the could.
