Had lovely pre theatre meal. Appreciated service anticipating early payment of bill so we wouldn't be held up.
Like the relaxed, informal style. Thank you.

A funky blend of casual cafe and modern restaurant, Spoon in Edinburgh Old Town draws diners in with its inventive menu of Scottish and European recipes, freshly made cakes, and simple style.

Wholesome, healthy recipes feature throughout the Spoon menu, with plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free options. Regional flavours are showcased in dishes like Scottish asparagus with lemon and chilli mash and romesco sauce, and there are fresh seafood options such as chargrilled herring fillet with fennel, watercress and lemon. Exotic tastes from overseas can be found in dishes like the saag aloo with coriander and lime yoghurt, while the sides range from patatas bravas to a selection of Scottish cheeses.

There are a great selection of freshly made cakes to enjoy throughout the day at Spoon Edinburgh, while the concise wine list includes bottles from the old and new worlds. Brunch is also a popular option here, with crowd pleasing choices ranging from rolls with sausage, egg and black pudding, through to toasted waffles with bacon, blueberries and maple syrup.

Moments from the Festival Theatre Edinburgh, Spoon offers pre-theatre menus, while Edinburgh Waverley Rail Station is only 10 minutes' walk away.

Good quality informal bistro experience. Rapid service was particularly valuable for a pre-theatre visit.

The service was very poor. Took over two hours for us to have breakfast, took ten minutes to bring some butter for toast and had to bring bill up to the counter because no one would take our payment.

Every dish on the main menu felt like it was create with love. I tasted 4 main dishes as I took a small taste from my friends plate. They were all amazing well put together. All the flavorers were well balanced, from the fish, beef, pork and vegetarian dishes were all perfectly thought out.
Our friend who is vegetarian loved that one of the two specials were vegetarian.
    Highly recommend eating at Spoon.
