Great restaurant, food excellent, very attentive and courteous staff. The calamari starter was cooked to perfection, possibly the best I had tasted. Disappointed with the crab risotto but this was down to personal taste than anything else - too salty, and the smell of the dish was off putting too (however it tasted much better than it smelled!). Bar prices very steep, but in line with some other 5 star hotels I suppose.
Would recommend and definitely return again.

Mussels were small and tasteless, some shells were empty and some were closed. We sent both meals back, they were replaced with fresh mussels which were much better, However this should not have happened in the first place. Very disappointing as this was a birthday meal.

Bowery Castle Brasserie - generally good but no catch of the day available and unable to serve any alcohol free beer as none available in hotel!

Meat in both steak sandwich, steak main course and duck special was all tough and lacking in flavour. Similarly, prawn sandwich had little flavour. Duck special uninspiring - generally the food was disappointing - not what you would expect from an 'award winning Head Chef'. We ate both lunch and dinner in the Brasserie and were surprised that there was nothing to differentiate the 2 meals - the menus were exactly the same, even down to the specials. It is not appropriate to have sandwiches on an evening meal menu nor should the actual menu be made of tatty, food stained, curled cardboard at dinner. The ambience of the restaurant was not conducive to an evening meal - it is more like a café - and at lunchtime we were surprised to find the restaurant largely populated by people in bathrobes, again, inappropriate.

We felt that the hotel probably needs a third dining alternative as the Great Western restaurant is prohibitively expensive.

On the plus side, the waiting staff were very pleasant and attentive.
