From the paintings on the wall to the dedicated dim sum chefs, every detail at Shikumen Shepherd’s Bush exhibits a commitment to authenticity. Skilfully handmade Chinese dishes are served amidst the Oriental splendour of the large dining room.

The Shikumen menu showcases the artistry of the restaurant’s experienced chefs. Exquisite dim sum are joined by the signature Peking duck, carved at your table and served with handmade pancakes and authentic bao buns. Amongst the other enticing options are the luxurious baked black cod fillet with Champagne sauce, beef in a rich merlot and black pepper sauce, and the inventive fried chicken in Marmite sauce with honey melon.

In a large, ornate building overlooking Shepherd’s Bush Green, Shikumen effortlessly blends contemporary style with Chinese tradition. The beautifully presented dishes are served in a majestic dining room of rich wooden furnishings, vibrant artwork and ambient lighting.

Very smart but relaxed restaurant - food good and service attentive - one small problem was the description of "stir fried squid with garlic, chili" which turned out to be deep fried when served. They were apologetic.

Shikumen hasn't been open long and came highly recommended. The food was actually pretty good, albeit slightly over-priced, but unfortunately many other things about Shikumen are less impressive. We arrived (at 8pm on a Saturday evening) to find the front desk unmanned. Wandering into the main restaurant, the barman ignored us and eventually a woman who must have been the maitre D got up from a table she'd been sitting at and asked about our reservation. The space itself looks a bit tired - scuffed tables and furnishings that have seen better days - a sense added to by the listlessness of the staff.

We started by ordering cocktails, and shortly after we had, a second staff member arrived to take our drinks order, looking surprised that someone else had taken it. Then before any drinks arrived a waitress appeared to take our food order. We ordered the seafood set menu for two - a single item - and were astonished that she had to come back to us THREE TIMES to clarify our order.

Then our wine arrived - and after a gentle reminder, do did the cocktails, one of which was so watery and unpleasant that it was undrinkable. The other, while not the sort of thing you'd order twice, at least tasted like something designed for human consumption.

The food was perfectly fine, but also suffered from the weird service. The lobster arrived without forks or lobster picks, although when the right cutlery did turn up, it was actually rather nice. We were too full for pudding, and the bill had to be returned because it still included the cocktail we had sent back.

So, the food's pretty good, but everything else about Shikumen suggests a lack of management and direction. The kitchen works, but front of house is in such disarray that it sours what could otherwise have been a pleasant enough meal.

We were allocated a separate space within the restaurant which was really great, it gave our party some private space to enjoy the food and celebrate my sister's birthday but also felt part of the whole restaurant. the food was really good, enjoyed by all in the party. we had dim sum and also items from the main menu.we had Chinese tea but enjoyed champagne to toast the birthday girl

Amazing experience! We had a large party and dozens of drinks orders and our server was completely unruffled! The food was amazing! Excellent! The ambience was great! Perfect evening! Perfect restaurant for special events!

We lived in Singapore for a few years and got to love the dim sum out there, when we got back to the UK a friend recommended Shikumen and it did not disappoint from the warm and friendly welcome , the helpful waiting staff to the excellent menu all leads to a wonderful dining experience

This was a very enjoyable experience on the whole. There was a large group of us and the restaurant was very accommodating with requests.
The decor is lovely. Service was on point. Prices are slightly above average but the food more than makes up for it. The Dim Sum for me is of high standard.
Presentation is perfect. The flavours are there. The full menu dishes are the same. Slightly above average on pricing but the quality makes up for it.
I would recommend the duck. The deserts are also presented well and were lovely.
    We will be back.
