A beautiful red-brick Victorian pub with grand arched windows, the Shakespeare serves a delicious menu of hearty British pub classics and a diverse selection of drinks. Because of its proximity to the Jewellery Quarter, the pub was a favourite haunt of goldsmiths and silversmiths in the 19th-century.

With Nicholson’s pubs first established in 1873, the fleet has become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality stock of ales. Constantly-featuring recipes are bolstered by a seasonally-changing range of specials on the Nicholson’s menu, with favourites including home-breaded chicken Kiev, or a sharing cottage pie. Also enjoy old-school desserts and nourishing breakfasts.

At the Nicholson’s bar, expect to find 25 guest ales changing with the seasons, a resident cask master, and carefully-matched ale and food pairing suggestions. Compiled with equal care, the Shakespeare drinks list features easy drinking wines, artisan soft drinks and classic cocktail mixes.

The Shakespeare in Birmingham is a 12-minute walk from Birmingham Snow Hill Rail Station.

Very enjoyable lunch. The Shakespeare in Summer Row is a lovely traditional pub and, with good weather, it was a real treat to sit outside and relax. I had the Hunter's Chicken, which was delicious, and my colleagues had ham hock and scampi respectively, which they both enjoyed. The ham hock looked particularly good and may be my choice next time.

Really enjoyed our meal at the Shakespeare. Staff were really friendly and there was a brilliant pub quiz just after we finished dining. Will definitely be back there soon.
