The garden party was a brilliant idea - should be an annual summer event.

Cooking southern French dishes over a wood fire, Sardine in Islington is led by head chef Alex Jackson, and Stevie Parle, the man behind a host of top London restaurants. An uber-cool, laidback venue, expect flavour-rich dishes using the best quality, finest ingredients.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, begin the day with the likes of ham with fried egg and lovage, pain d’epices or a wondrous breakfast cassoulet. At lunch and dinner, Sardine's menu begins with sharing snacks and rich starters like radishes, crème fraîche & bottarga, stuffed courgette flowers and grilled octopus, potato capers & fennel.

Enticing main dishes include the signature dish of lamb a la ficelle, cooked slowly over a custom wood grill and served with fresh borlotti beans, Green beans, oregano & olives. As the name suggests, fish is a specialty with turbot, red mullet, mussels and Hhake often featuring on the menu.

Amongst the classic desserts at Sardine in London, savour seasonal delights such as grilled white peach, raspberries & brandy cream. Focussing on regional French & Italian bottles, an impressive wine list is also on hand to compliment your meal, whilst renowned bartender Clotilde Lataille brings her expertise to the fore with a specially curated French aperitif cocktail menu.

Tucked away by the canal in a quiet corner of east London, Sardine on Micawber Street is a 9-minute walk from Old Street Station.

We were a party of six and everyone enjoyed their meal. Each dish provided a favourable comment from the tripe salad starter to wild bream mains. Personally the lamb chops and butter beans reminded me of the home cooked traditional dish I had had during Easter in the SW France.
    Service was attentive and friendly.

Well, the restaurant is really cute, open and modern, a popular local and the menu small and interesting if a bit potatoe heavy for me. However the service was not so good and they really were not that busy. My main dish was forgotten/missed/whatever although they did say the waiter was on his first week and they did give us a glass of fig wine at the end of the meal. However that doesn't excuse one of the staff rushing out in the street after us accusing us of not paying our bill when there was clearly a pile of cash left on the table! I've worked in hospitality and frankly there is no excuse for this...

One of the best meals I have had in London for a long time. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, lovely atmosphere and fabulous good. Courgette flowers for starters, monkfish mussels and grey mullet, nougat parfait ice-cream and more. Simple but beautiful ingredients. Our foodie friends from San Francisco loved it too - high praise indeed.A great way to celebrate out wedding anniversary.
