Sardine

Delicious! Seemingly simple dishes deliver amazing flavour. For example, carrots cooked over embers with purslane and goat cheese, yum. Wonderful use of vegetables in many dishes.
The environment is basic but adequate - all the focus is on the food. Charming and knowledgeable service.

Cooking southern French dishes over a wood fire, Sardine in Islington is led by head chef Alex Jackson, and Stevie Parle, the man behind a host of top London restaurants. An uber-cool, laidback venue, expect flavour-rich dishes using the best quality, finest ingredients.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, begin the day with the likes of ham with fried egg and lovage, or pain d’épice with salted butter. At lunch and dinner, the Sardine restaurant menu begins with sharing snacks and rich starters like black cabbage and chorizo soup or veal and pork stuffed onion. Enticing main dishes include rabbit with sausage, chicory and white beans, and grilled pork chop with salsify gratin.

Amongst the classic desserts at Sardine in London, savour the likes of apple and almond galette, and pannetone bread and butter pudding. Focussing on regional French bottles, an impressive wine list is also on hand to compliment your meal.

Tucked away by the canal in a quiet corner of east London, Sardine on Micawber Street is a 9-minute walk from Old Street Station.

slightly odd pickled beetroot amuse bouche was followed by a very tasty Bagna Cauda - and a roast hake with an anchovy sauce . Dessert was very tasty - the pannacota was great but advertised to have chocolate on the dish - a bit of chocolate powder is not chocolate in my opinion.
the ambiance is great and the jazz good - although a bit much after 1 hour+
so overall the food is very good but a bit pricey in my opinion - at around £8 for a starter and £18 for the main.

The grilled pork and rabbit were very tasty! Nice and friendly service. I recommend.

Great food, good service and reasonable value - had not appreciated that the name of the restaurant was derived from the seating arrangements - we were packed in like the proverbial.

Very good food. Definitely go back. Improvements can be made on starters offers: one oyster as starter won't cut it. Extend these.
Food is very rich and very tasty and great wine.
Excellent service by the team who really know the menu and drinks in depth.
