A sliver of South American sunshine on Portobello Road in London, Santo is a small neighbourhood restaurant serving big Mexican flavours. Local artisanal produce is championed, and married with bold Mexican flavours for lively, authentic cuisine.
No punches are held on the Santo menu with a starter of deep-fried sea-bass strips accompanied by ‘furious’ chile de árbol salsa. To follow, there’s an array of typical Mexican options: quesadillas, tacos, burritos – all served with a variety of differently cooked and tender meats. A food key is provided to explain how Santo cooks its meats, explaining that ‘pastor’ pork is marinated for 48 hours whilst ‘asado’ chicken is freshly chargrilled.
Every Friday and Saturday night diners become dancers as Santo invites resident DJ, ‘DJ Flex’, behind the decks to get the party started with some lively South American salsa and hip-hop. A monthly dinner club gives the chance to join Chef-Patron Fernando for a mouth-watering feast using international ingredients.
Santo is on Portobello Road in Notting Hill, and is a lively spot during Carnival. Ladbroke Grove is a 5-minute walk.

Went to Santo with friends on a weekday evening. It's a lovely place both in terms of the decor and the warmth of the staff who seem genuinely happy to work there and are knowledgeable about the menu. Tried three ceviches all of which were fabulous. Had lots of tacos which were also really good. Some beers to wash it all down. The food is authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex. Great food and a great night. Good value too. We'll be back for sure!
