The Samarkand is unlikely find in the Marais area of central Paris and probably the only Uzbek restaurant in France. The owner Marc Bonnel, is a doctor who fell in love with Uzbekistan and decided to open a restaurant in 2005. Lots of specialities from central Asia are on offer, Plov, Samsa, Chuchvara and lots of other exotic sounding dishes. The atmosphere is laid back and the ambiance cosy, with just 30 places you would be well advised to book, although there is a small terrace in fine weather. The chef trained at one of the main hotels in the Uzbek capital of Tachkent. Lamb ravioli with spices and onions and melon based dessert are just some of the delights on offer at Samarkand.
