Very friendly, beautifully presented and delicious food, plenty of bread, good wine. High-end eaterie, expensive relative to local area but definitely worth it.

Fusing Nordic and French flavours with some German influences, Salut! in Islington offers a relaxed take on modern European food. Watch the dishes being prepared in the open kitchen, from the warm and comfortable dining room with wooden tables and vintage furnishings.

From a chef who trained at world-famous Noma, the Salut! menu makes the most of meat from local producers, as well as sustainably sourced fish and organic vegetables. Start with the likes of king crab with watercress, or a salad of Nordic marinated pork belly with fresh coriander and spring onions. Amongst the flavour-rich mains, try the 45-day dry-aged beef steak with glazed kale, or poached eggs with butternut squash cokoed sous-vide and confit heritage tomatoes.

Salut! restaurant boasts beautiful large windows which let light flood in during the day. At night, dimmed copper lights, candles and music make for an intimate and relaxed atmosphere.

Find Salut! London on Essex Road, a short walk from Dalston Junction, Canonbury and Essex Road rail stations.

We booked the 21.30 slot as this was the earliest available one. When we arrived the table was not yet ready so we waited outside. The table was made available pretty soon after and we sat down and ordered drinks which were promptly served. As it was so late, we declined starters and went straight for main courses. There were five of us and we chose the red deer x 2, the wild boar, the field vegetables and the duck breast. The order was not delivered until after 10.30 which we felt was far to late when we had arrived on time at 9.30. Yes we were topped up with bread and butter to keep the hunger pangs at bay and the two wine drinkers had their glasses topped up but on the whole we were disappointed that we had to wait so long for our meals. When they were delivered, they were exquisite in appearance, presentation, taste and texture. We had already decided that we would order desserts as we could see the chef preparing them for other diners and just had to try for ourselves. We only ordered two between the five of us but the waitress brought plates and cutlery for us all. We will visit again as the food is amazing and it is a convenient location for my sister's flat. I hope, however, that the service is a little more pacey next time.

Great restaurant, open plan and lovely decor - very cosy on a cold November night. We went for my fiance's birthday and the service couldn't have been better - they even gave us an extra desert and some desert wine on the house! Food was lovely - the highlight was definitely the red deer although the cheese board was excellent too. The wine list was great with some really good, affordable options. All in all was a great night and would definitely go again!
