A luxurious 19th-century manor house hotel, Rowhill Grange near Dartford hosts the sophisticated RG’s Restaurant, winner of 2 AA Rosettes. The more informal Elements Bar & Lounge serves brasserie-style cuisine, while both offer al fresco dining on the garden terrace, also ideal for traditional afternoon tea.

The RG’s Restaurant menu embraces seasonal flavours, with venison loin with pumpkin puree, red cabbage and chocolate, and wild turbot with crab and broad bean risotto amongst its mains. The RG’s grill sizzles with prime sirloin, organic chicken and salmon served with hollandaise.

Big club sandwiches and flavourful salads are trademarks of the Elements menu, along with classic pastas and chunky cod and chips. RG’s is an inviting setting for a fulsome Sunday lunch, where decadent starters and puddings join traditional roasts, or equally tempting fish and vegetarian dishes.

Served in the restaurants or one of the relaxing Rowhill Grange lounges, afternoon tea can be accompanied by strawberries and champagne, with freshly baked cakes straight from the Rowhill Grange pastry chefs. In Wilmington, Rowhill Grange Hotel & Utopia Spa is a 10-minute drive from central Dartford.

We ordered a rare sirloin and a medium rare fillet steak. Both were listed as 8oz, yet the fillet was half the size of the sirloin. The sirloin arrived medium rare to medium and particularly tough to chew, but my partner suffered it. My fillet came out well done. The manager apologised, replacing it with a decently cooked piece, and to give him credit he offered to add a piece to make up for the size shortfall. The extra piece to make up for the size issue (..which was of a sufficient size that had it been served initially we would have managed and not raised concerns..) was unfortunately also well done. Aside from the inability to serve the meat cooked in the manner requested, the meat was overpoweringly salty. To add to the frustration, 90% of my creamed spinach side dish (..more spinach leaves in a soup of cream..) was removed with the initial poorly cooked fillet, as I had already served it on my plate, and not replaced.

The standard of food did not, by far, befit the listed price. The manager was courteous enough though to, without being asked, reduce the bill to compensate for the issues.

Also, we sat down at 20:00 and were served at 21:15. Fortunately we enjoyed our own company so the time didn't prove a major deal.

    Disappointing experience.

We had afternoon tea and it was lovely however, I do not think it was worth the money. We had 4 tiny little sandwiches and 2 scone where as it would make more sense to have more sandwiches and 1 scone.

We had a lovely afternoon tea. Food was excellent and service was excellent too.

Afternoon tea was delicious. Particularly liked the sandwiches and cakes, although not sure about the mint flavour in the chocolate choux buns (would have been better without). The surroundings were lovely. The conservatory was gorgeous and the hotel and grounds in general were lovely. Service was good.

We booked the table for 7.30pm. There were only two or three more tables with people dining at that time. The staff were very polite, but we did feel a little too attentive to begin with. This could have been because not much to do, so we were being asked the same questions by different members of staff. This was better as the room filled up with other diners. The food was very good and we both enjoyed the meal.

I have been to Rowhill Grange numerous times before and been very happy. This time however I was very underwhelmed. I had a late booking at 5.30pm and was shown in to their newly refurbished tea room. Its basically a white box with tables far to low in relation to the chairs. Not a comfortable experience at all. I also has some issues with unidentified objects in the cream.
To be fair I have always previously been happy, I would just suggest people avoid the latest booking on a weekend.

Lovely location and friendly welcome. Good quality food, sandwiches and scones very good , cakes ok but could have been more exciting. Lovely tea and champagne. Good ambience (no piped music whilst we were there until the very end thankfully). Waiter very attentive and helpful . Didn't need him to go over all the menu twice - once when ordering and again when food arrived. I'm sure he gets bored with this too.
