Great food and service, as usual. Excellent menu with Halibut and John Dory on offer rather than the ubiquitous sea bass! Beautifully cooked venison as well

First visit to Roger Hickmans, booked because it looked like a "fine dining" experience in Norwich, which we frequently visit. Four of us had dinner, Saturday evening. The staff were very friendly and pleasant and the dining room had a nice ambience. Amuse bouche were very good. My quail starter was excellent and our mains were well presented, tasty, and portion size was good. The same goes for the desserts. However, our evening was indelibly marred by a 45 minute wait for our desserts. For somewhere with fine-dining aspirations, that's just plain unacceptable. Several other tables also delayed. Perhaps too many covers on a full Saturday evening? The staff were apologetic but the wait tarnished what should have been a very pleasant evening out. We had intended to stay for coffee / brandy etc. but couldn't because of the delay. A real pity because the food was very good and the staff nice.
This place could be knocking on one-star Michelin territory but to get that, service would have to be far, far more efficient. It's reasonable value for the quality of food on offer but not good-value; there are plenty of one-star places in London that come in for less. Wine list lacks cheaper options for those who need that. So, close but no cigar I'm afraid. Get the service right and these prices can stand. Without that, it's a bit to much I'm afraid. We'll probably give it another chance; lunch could be much better value and perhaps less full so speedier?

We had the lunch menu - Beetroot and raspberry salad and mackerel starters were excellent. Sea bream main course was beautifully cooked and attractively presented. Finished off with a fine tarte tatin.

This is a consistently good restaurant.
We sent our friends from abroad who raved about it.
Thank you for looking after them.

My wife and I visited Roger Hickman's Restaurant for lunch yesterday - 16th February 2017. We have had meals at this restaurant on a number of occasions and this time the overall standard of the food and service was, as in the past - excellent. We enjoyed our meal and will return again.

Had a wonderful Valentine's lunch and had the taster menu which I thought was very good value, and a great introduction to the delicious ingredients used. You get several small courses, which were surprisingly filling! I will definitely be back.

We were a bit worried that they had lost michelin star since our last visit - but excellent meal & service. We requested the evening tasting menu for our lunch & this was provided even though it was valentine's day and they were very busy.

At £47 far better food and presentation than a £245 meal we had at Michel Blanc's snooty restaurant at Bray.....nice Bruer Tidman paintings too, though mine would be better....

    What a superb meal!
We've been here before and noticed the changed decor which was smart and contemporary. I had the mackerel starter and the horseradish and dill flavours complemented it beautifully. My wife had the beetroot salad and loved the raspberries. We both had the venison main course and lemon meringue pie dessert - the mixture of lemon flavours and textures in the latter were delicious. Great coffee and petit fours rounded off a fantastic meal.
The service was attentive and it was good of Roger to have a chat with us at the end of the evening.
If you're looking for top drawer food and service this is the place for you!
