The Kings Head in Norfolk is an Edwardian hotel, restaurant and bar serving traditional, locally sourced food. The exciting food can be enjoyed from the contemporary but cosy restaurant, the informal bar and lounge area, or the large garden.

The Kings Head Kings Lynn adds innovative and exotic touches to classic British dishes. Start with a salad of local goats’ cheese with roasted beetroot and orange and citrus dressing, or Cromer crab with potato and caper salad. Main dishes include casseroles that change weekly, tender fillet steaks with a choice of sauce, and a fresh catch of the day in summer.

From the bar, a host of New World and European wines are available, as well as a plethora of gins and other spirits. Kids aren’t left out at The Kings Head, with a children’s menu that features, mini pizzas, build-your-own tacos and smaller portions of classic dishes.

The Kings Head in Great Bircham sits in the beautiful Norfolk countryside near Kings Lynn.

Oh dear, what has happened to this place?! This used to be a place to come for a special treat but now no one comes here! Booked a table on a Saturday night (in December!) we were the only table in a large restaurant so we asked to move to the bar as we didn't want to be alone. It was really cold and we sat with three other tables (and there was no-one else but staff around). The food was bland and overcooked, we weren't asked once how our meal was. We won't be coming back.

First impressions very good but on entering the Dining room it was empty which was not expected. We waited 40 minutes for the meal to arrive which was mentioned, and the portions were tiny but tasty and we thought it was expensive. We did not stay for dessert as our friends had to leave early. There was no atmosphere at all and reception could not find our coats when we left. Overall not the best experience.

The overall experience was lovely. I chose the curried Cod & my husband & son chose the fillet steak. The meal was very nicely balanced and was delicious. Like wise for pudding, we chose the rice pudding dessert which was really beautiful (I would suggest making the caramelised pineapple bite size). The service was just as you'd expect from fine dining and we were made to feel welcome and special.

Our only comment was that the menu was a little restrictive. One game dish, one beef dish (the steak) one fish dish (the Cod) and a vegetarian option. If our older son was dining he would have been very disappointed eating mostly chicken dishes. This was the same for the dessert menu, mostly a little unimaginative; a lemon posset, a dark chocolate dessert, the rice pudding and one other which I cannot even recollect. Whilst well executed they were aimed at an older, very traditional pallet. The staff however did accommodate an off the menu request for an ice cream dessert for our 12 year old which for me is always an excellent point of recommendation.

Complimentary water at the table is a nice little touch.

I would recommend this restaurant and the many Gins in the bar area.

I'm afraid it was very average. Bar service was slow and poor. Restaurant service slightly better but still very slow. The food was ok but not what I expected given the location and price point. It was very busy (a good thing) but no where near enough staff and despite the obvious investment in refurbishing the interior there is no ambience. It's a bit like an airport hotel feel. The starters; mine was luke warm, my partners was better. Main courses; the meats were OK and so was the fresh veg, the roast potatoes were obviously reheated and not nice however the Yorkshire puddings were very good.
Overall a 5/10, early days for the owners I think but you only get one chance to make a first impression. Will I go back? Probably not.

Excellent menu. I would happily enjoyed any of the choices. The meals chosen were first class. The service was friendly, efficient and helpful. We will be returning to work through the menu!

We have dined here before and always enjoy the meals. Once again the food was delicious, especially the fish, but we felt the service was not at its best. After ordering we were brought the wrong starters. Then we were brought a bottle of wine which we had not ordered. We noticed too that people whose order was taken after ours were served before us. We had to ask for a dessert menu and ask again to order one. One waiter seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time with one specific couple. Our young lads had no conversation and could only mutter "Enjoy". We do not blame the waiters, it is up to the management to train people to wait at tables. We did appreciate the birthday candle in my partner's dessert -a nice touch. And the beautiful sunset really enhanced the evening!

Food was a very good standard but waiting staff seemed very immature, really needs more experienced and welcoming staff. Dining room could do with some background music, very quiet
Not sure whether we will return

Very good food good service and a choice of real ale. For the gin lovers out there they have a fine selection more than I can count. My wife was able to tick a few more of the list. Highly recommended when travelling to north Norfolk the Kings Head is right on the edge of the Sandringham estate.
