The Whitebrook holds a Michelin star and 4 AA Rosettes. Serving modern British cuisine, the restaurant benefits from stunning views of the Wye Valley.

Using exciting ingredients foraged locally, the food is rustic but creative. Start with squab pigeon with cauliflower, rhubarb and bitter leaves, or flame-grilled mackerel fillet with baked apple, pickled cucumber and laver seaweed. Amongst the exquisitely presented mains are suckling pig with pine nut purée, violet artichokes and hop shoots, and the featherblade of Longhorn beef with quinoa, kohlrabi, nettle and horseradish. The Whitebrook taster menu offers an intriguing array of wild produce, with the option of carefully selected wines to accompany the dishes.

Décor at The Whitebrook Monmouth is rustic but sophisticated, with exposed wooden beams, wooden flooring and neutral colours. Both the restaurant and the tranquil terrace enjoy views of the surrounding countryside.

On the doorstep of the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean, The Whitebrook restaurant sits in a beautiful rural location. The town of Monmouth is a 13-minute drive away.

Interesting experience. Group of five out for a celebration of a birthday and we had the seven course tasting menu. I know it was a tasting menu but did not realise just how small the main courses could be. The turbot with smoked cod roe was favoured all round, the lamb was enjoyed but the portion was miniscule and so disappointed, mixed reception for the snails but good that they were discernible from the other ingredients and not drowned in butted and garlic. The pre-dessert had interesting textures but the balance of opinion was against the chamomile. The freshly picked strawberries were delightful but the same could not be said of the sorrel ice-cream. Too soft and not too pleasant a taste. It was a fun evening. We took the option of finishing with some coffees but eschewed the offer of a an additional cheese course. A not inexpensive evening. Comprehensive wine list, limited selection of ales, interesting soft drinks. We left feeling okay, but expected probably a bit more and slightly better value for money. I often judge a restaurant by the mood of the staff and the quality of the background facilities. The staff were fairly pleasant, quite reserved and coped well with a reasonably busy evening. The "gents" let the place down badly. Decor not in keeping, condition not great. I shall return to sample the a la carte menu. The tasting menu on the website bears no relation to that served this weekend.

We chose a three course lunch, but with the extras this became 5. The food was perfectly balanced and we felt comfortably full at the end. Presentation with home grown herbs and flowers was beautiful. The staff and service was faultless.

The tasting menu was delicious, well balanced, and made an interesting use of local produce and foraged items. The recommended wines beautifully complimented the dishes, and greatly enhanced the experience. The staff were efficient, friendly and well informed. A brilliant effort!

Amazing. Fantastic experience from the moment we walked through the door. Courteous, efficient, friendly and knowledgable staff - each and every one of them.Excellent service and delicious and appetising food. We were dining with our 14 year old son and he was made to feel so special. The chef came out later to meet us - a lovely unassuming man. The 7 course tasting menu is an excellent way to explore different dishes and tastes. We had it with the tasting wines - worth doing as each glass of wine totally complements the food. Each dish as delicious as the last. We were even given a lift back to our holiday cottage by the Maitre D as he was worried about us walking back in the dark. What can I say - above and beyond. Definitely one of our top ten evenings. Thank you everyone at The Whitebrook. Not normally this gushing so you can imagine how much we enjoyed it
