Imaginative menu, great use of ingredients and flavours. Beautifully matched and interesting wine flight. Not cheap but good value for what was on offer. Excellent, but not overbearing, service throughout.

The Whitebrook holds a Michelin star and 4 AA Rosettes. Serving modern British cuisine, the restaurant benefits from stunning views of the Wye Valley.

Using exciting ingredients foraged locally, the food is rustic but creative. Start with squab pigeon with cauliflower, rhubarb and bitter leaves, or flame-grilled mackerel fillet with baked apple, pickled cucumber and laver seaweed. Amongst the exquisitely presented mains are suckling pig with pine nut purée, violet artichokes and hop shoots, and the featherblade of Longhorn beef with quinoa, kohlrabi, nettle and horseradish. The Whitebrook taster menu offers an intriguing array of wild produce, with the option of carefully selected wines to accompany the dishes.

Décor at The Whitebrook Monmouth is rustic but sophisticated, with exposed wooden beams, wooden flooring and neutral colours. Both the restaurant and the tranquil terrace enjoy views of the surrounding countryside.

On the doorstep of the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean, The Whitebrook restaurant sits in a beautiful rural location. The town of Monmouth is a 13-minute drive away.

We had a wonderful evening. It was my treat for my husband for his birthday and we couldn't have had a better experience. All of the staff were friendly, welcoming and approachable. The restaurant and service were smart, stylish and not in the least bit stuffy. The food was amazing. You could distinguish each taste and flavour. The combinations were excellent. I really love the emphasis on local produce. I'm finding it difficult to pick out favourites, but I loved the crab dish with the hint of horseradish. The asparagus was perfect. The turbot was really fresh and left free to sing. The pine on the poached pear was a revelation. How do you DO that? My only reservation was the blackberry jelly, which to me tasted like ribena and opal fruits. But one slight question mark in a 7 course menu can't be bad! The cheeses were great. Now I look at the bill in the cold light of day, did you forget to charge for them?
The non driving birthday boy had the tasting wines, but you gave me a splash of each, which was very generous and really appreciated. The combinations were perfect in our view. It was very interesting to have a sip, for a couple of them think, "Hmm. I'm not sure." Then be knocked out by the perfect combination with the food. The local pinot noir was a case in point.
    A great evening. Thank you.

There's very little to say other than it was one of the worst dining experiences of my life.

Having arrived at 7.45pm informing the Front of House that I suffer from Coeliac disease and have to follow a strict gluten free diet, I was offered at 8.15pm two canapes that contained Gluten. The replacements arrived 20 minutes later which were just slices of cold potato with some herbs on the top. Very bland and tasteless and didn't give me hope for what was to come.

At 9pm we were shown to our table. By 11pm we had only received 5 of the 7 courses from the taster menu and 2 courses had been served cold. When we complained to the Front of the House that the food was cold, we were told that it was supposed to be like that. I've eaten in restaurants all over the world and have never been served cold brill... When we dared to mention that we had a taxi booked and babysitters to get home to relieve, we were told that the whole dining experience wouldn't complete before 11.30pm and we should have known it would take that long and there was nothing they could do to speed things along. At no point, was it bought to our attention that we needed 3.5 hours to complete the meal.

Whilst the food did taste nice, but the 30 - 40 minute wait between courses was way too long and the very small portions meant that you were so hungry that you ate to quickly and didn't even notice what you were eating. This meant that from a value for money perspective it was poor.

The main complaint of the night was the rude staff. The service was poor, the Front of House aggressive and the general ambience of the place was lacking atmosphere. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Great food and atmosphere great location. Just a little to long between courses as the meal went on

Very nice food, presented beautifully.I would like to see a vegetarian option in the set menu.Although I was lucky as I eat fish.
Also I would like to see two more options in the white wine by the glass section. If we are driving we dont want to order a bottle.
It is a fine line between being exceptional and getting enough customers to stay solvent.I noticed a enclosure, are you planning to grow vegetables? I would like to see alot more vegetables in their natural state on the menu. How long will crumbles, foams etc stay in fashion? You need to be thinking ahead.....
I dont really understand Michelin star ratings just be true to yourself and your setting.the resturant has a good foundation to build on.
Perhaps a legend on the menu with a definition of the foraged herbs. It would be nice to refer back to during the meal.
We found it a touch chilly but we are thermophiles! Coming out of the resturant to the sound of the birdlife and running stream was very relaxing.Staff were friendly and curteous happy to help with any queries.

We have eaten at The Whitebrook (formerly The Crown at..) a number of times.

It IS remote but it IS worth the trip. Dishes are innovative taste sensations and the presentation is artistic and beautiful.

A couple of minor points. First, I thought that the pace of service was a little slower than I would have liked. Second, in the main of Ryeland lamb the meat was not quite up to the quality expected, lacking flavour and tenderness.

We will always go back to the Crown whenever we are in the area - but it is a long way from Surrey.

Had the Taster Menu and was one of the best we have had - some really unusual paired wines served by a very pleasant and knowledgeable sommelier. Food well balanced and enhanced by some wonderful foraged herbs and vegetables. However, we thought the decor was a little sparse and lacked atmosphere and ambiance- difficult to ignore conversations on nearby tables - too many hard surfaces maybe ?
    Good value

A really wonderful experience. The food was exquisite, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere was lovely. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Food was exceptional. We had the tasting menu with wines and all were interesting choices although one wine was not to our taste. The background music got a little repetitive after three hours. Staff were knowledgable and attentive without being intrusive.
