Went for an evening meal, food was fantastic and not particularly expensive either. Service was also good, friendly and efficient.

A Grade II-listed 16th-century site, Red Lion Inn Hinxton enjoys multiple awards for its traditional British cuisine, including an AA Rosette. Open fires and twisting beams are found indoors, or guests can enjoy the gastro pub’s sheltered garden.

Sourcing from a trusted team of suppliers, the Red Lion menu showcases elegant flavour combinations, with dishes like seared venison loin with celeriac textures and chargrilled artichokes, or cauliflower risotto with truffle foam. Delicious Sunday lunches and hearty English breakfasts honour British tradition, while decadent desserts include dark chocolate delice with honeycomb and raspberries.

A stock of 40 wines is sourced from local Adnams wine merchants, alongside 4 local ales, and choices from micro-breweries. An elegant chef’s tasting menu offers gourmet indulgence, while the bar menu showcases more laidback gastro pub cuisine.

Praised in both the Good Food and Good Pub Guides, Red Lion Inn restaurant sits a 9-mile drive from central Cambridge.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, it could not have been better! But we did not like the need to inform the Red Lion whether we wanted the Christmas menu or a la carte well in advance. With seven people coming it proved quite a problem for all to agree; and when we had our lunch, there was another party having the Christmas menu.
If a turkey is being cooked, how can it be necessary to know how many more will want it? I had to email everyone twice, and phone two to confirm. Was it worth it?
    Questionable, as one dropped out!
