The authentic Indian cuisine of Rajdoot Tandoori Manchester has impressed the city’s diners since 1966. Thought to be Europe’s first tandoori restaurant, this regally decorated venue can be found deep below Albert Square, with expert chefs preparing its innovative North Indian food.
House specialities at Rajdoot Manchester include aromatic chilli garlic duck, spicy jumbo king prawns and Nepalese chicken jhol. Coconut and lemongrass simmered spiced cod is among the seafood selection on the Rajdoot menu, and there’s a wide range of vegetarian choices including biryani and spicy koftas.
Well-known Indian favourites jalfrezi, bhuna and tikka are joined by chef’s recommendations like peppered chicken karahi and the flavourful minced lamb keema mutter. Amongst a tempting choice of starters, sample tandoori delicacies including chicken shashlik and vegetable samosas on the Rajdoot sharing platter.
Plush red banquettes, colourful lanterns and homeland artefacts hallmark Rajdoot’s opulent Moglai-inspired interior. Rajdoot Tandoori is a 14-minute walk from Manchester Victoria Train Station.

Good meal, well served and friendly staff. We went slightly early but as it was quiet they kindly accommodated us. Slightly chilly inside due to a/c. Restaurant filled up quickly after 7.30 pm

We visited Rajdoot on 20th May. The food was tasty and of very good quality, especially fish. The staff were attentative and friendly. Drinks quite expensive but expected for Manchester.

Thoroughly enjoyed meal excellent service. The food takes us back to how a proper indian meal should taste. The biryani is the best I have tasted and I am 51 so have tasted a lot. Have and would recommend.

I have been an infrequent diner here for over 25 years and it remains a quality place to eat. A hidden gem well worth a try.
