A bijou hideaway in the heart of the city, POLPO Brighton is a laidback, rustic Italian restaurant. Open frontage in warmer weather and pavement tables evoke a continental feel, while the interior has a trendy, reclaimed feel.

Reminiscent of Venice’s charming backstreet restaurants, POLPO specialises in Venetian small plates and spritz. Hand-rolled meatballs, freshly-stretched pizzettes and fresh colourful salads head up the menu. The main menu varies with the seasons and favourite creations include cuttlefish & squid ink risotto with gremolata, roast stuffed pork, lentils & radicchio and crab & chilli linguine. For dessert, choose from a variety of classics, such as tiramisu or Venetian ricotta doughnuts with cinnamon sugar.

In addition to the main menu, POLPO Brighton offers a great value all-day set menu, and daily changing specials to look out for on the blackboard. Aperitivo Time takes place every day from 4-6pm. Sip on a refreshing Spritz and enjoy some delicious bar snacks like black truffle crisps & Bella di Cerignola olives, for just £5.

A favourite neighbourhood restaurant, the Brighton POLPO is an 11-minute walk from Brighton Train Station.

Ok but food was average crab linguini had no crab in it so sent it back. Waiting staff handled it well and got a new dish that was average as well. Nice venue. Staff nice average food and need to up the game. It was just a bit of a chain restaurant catering taste. Happy to pay more for better food

Welcome food and service excellent! However Bellini in a tumbler very disappointing . Tonic water was flat.
Wine very good. A wonderful evening food was well presented and we had a great evening so thank you!

Food was great. Particularly pleased with the wide selection of 50cl wine carafe, rather than just the house option - look forward to coming back!

We popped in early evening Sunday for a plate of meatballs before the Theatre. Staff were really lovely - all of them. Even spoke briefly to one of the chefs who was so nice, Food great, wine great. Really lovely space and beautifully decorated. The ONLY criticism was a woman at the other end of the restaurant had a sausage dog that barked, A Lot! I love dogs and have no problem with letting them in restaurants, but only if they are well behaved. The barking was really loud and really annoying, That was a real shame. I think the manager should have said something to her or asked her to move to the front of the restaurant which was empty of customers.

Made to feel welcome from walking through the door, food was all delicious and so easy to order more as you fancied it. The marinara and the meatballs were exceptional. The only small let down was the tiny spaces between the tables, made it difficult to get past especially when the restaurant is full.

The lighting and atmosphere was perfect , the food especially the prawns were to die for and the pork with lentils delicious. Great service and timing too . Will def be returning.

Excellent food and atmosphere, shame for the service. We had to wait far too long for the drinks

Just like being in Venice - a hidden gem with a very interesting selection of dishes. We selected some fabulous cicetti, great mains and lovely pizza although the menu was a bit impenetrable to start with.

Only slight gripe was that the tables are WAY too close together which meant that the adjacent tables' bottles of wine / water were in jeopardy any time anyone wanted to go to the loo.

Great service - smiley and really helpful. Don't be floored by the slightly strange menu: it's well worth persisting with!

Great food, good and unusual selection of big and little plates a good experience as always, attentive and efficient service from a friendly team, particularly Jess in Brighton. One minor comment the high potency (chilli heat ) of the mussels and samphire rather distracted from what otherwise was another faultless meal- but a personal taste of course.
